One of the more interesting bits of sexism in my head, is that a woman's reputation is all she really has. I don't actually believe that, mind you, but it is in my head, and there's some value there in my being aware that a lot of other people *do* believe it.
And one of the odd quirks to my background, to my experience, to my history and education, is that I'm aware of the importance of knowing one's reputation. I don't sugar coat mine, but neither do I really describe it as worse than it is.
I have a reputation as being very thoughtful, pedantic, and yet also a loose cannon. You can drag me to a function and think I am going to write a glowing review, and what might come out of it is a horrific slam on you. I am indiscriminate in my approach to things, it often seems. I go after friend and foe alike and I use the same tools and the same habits and I am not really well known for being nice to people when I do it. I am one of the "angry ->-bleeped-<-s" of the current day, and I am looked at with high wariness because I'll play a word game with people in positionsof high power and I will not back down when other people think I should.
