A Canadian law has been amended to protect transgendered people from hate crimes.
In Section 318 of Bill C-389 in the Criminal Code, subsection four protects people from hate crimes directed towards them based on their colour, race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation.
C-389 adds "gender identity," defined as the gender persons identify with regardless of physical gender, and "gender expression," referring to the way an individual chooses to portray their gender, be it clothing, mannerisms, presentation and/or roles, to the section's list of specifications.
For some reason I didn't think this was happening until march. It's great that it has been amended already.
While I doubt it'll do much for everyday problems, it is definitely nice that it's specifically in the list now.

Obviously written by an idiot. Not only does amendment have only one "M" at the beginning of the word - and it's in the headline for Pete's sake... no law protects anyone from anything. It may provide a different level of punishment once the crime has gone down, but the mere existence of a law is not going to stop the crime. Really, really crappy writing. Is this a real publication by a real school? Really?
No not yet..It is slated for third debate at reading on March 3 & final vote March 9. Then it goes to the senate. http://www.xtra.ca/blog/ottawa/post/2011/01/05/An-update-on-Bill-C-389.aspx (http://www.xtra.ca/blog/ottawa/post/2011/01/05/An-update-on-Bill-C-389.aspx)

I thought I was right. Shame I couldn't have been wrong.
After reading the article over, it isn't the greatest read ever; and I should have paid closer attention.

Your Welcome!
Sorry guys. I was slightly thrown by the spelling mistake, but hey, it's in the pipework.
