UVALDE, Texas -- Jennifer Gellar's admission to Southwest Texas Junior College in her hometown of Uvalde is not a problem. But where she will live might be.
Willie Edwards, SWTJC spokesman, said which dormitory the transgendered student will be moving into when classes begin next Monday is "under review."
The campus of 1,700 students has a co-ed dorm and another for women.
Gellar used to be John Brigman, who said he served in the U.S. Navy and in military police reserves. Now 51 years old, Gellar said "going over to the female side," resulted in a medical discharge from the military in 2008.
51 seems old for dorm life no matter what.

That kinda was my thoughts too
If you can't run a beer bong properly and rap along with Kanye then perhaps an apartment would suit you better.
I couldn't imagine myself living in a dorm at that age. However, she may have a paid up state 529, a scholarship, job reimbursement, Navy service payments etc. etc. that pay for it, or maybe it is already paid for somehow. It may be that this is the only way she can afford to do it. Perhaps she wishes to completely immerse herself in an environment of scholarly pursuits that was denied when she was at a more appropriate age. All of these might be good and honorable reasons to do it.

At a JuCo? Really? I somehow doubt it.
I really don't have a problem that she wanted to live in the dorm...I know my wife regrets never having that experience. I just know at 40 I can't imagine living in a dorm. I can't imagine wanting to confine my belongings to such a small space - I need room!
Yeah, I paid more for my dorm room(1 tiny shared room w/ a community bathroom down the hall) for 1 year than I do for my 3 bedroom apartment. That is one experience I don't miss.
You may well also regret not being able to be a Cub Scout when you were young, but that's no reason to let you dress up in the uniform and race your 'Rob's Revenge' Pinewood Derby car against 3rd graders is it?
Dorms exist in large part to do that in loco parentis deal. Which despite the anger management problems mentioned in the article I don't think its the school's proper place or responsibility to take on for a 51 year old ex-cop. Furthermore, JuCos in Texas exist to teach high-school graduates stuff that your kids would have learned in 7th grade in Minnesota, and that's not just a fact, it's gospel truth.
Then there is this...
However, she said an incident last March is causing concern among some female students in that dormitory.
Uvalde Police Chief Bob McDonald said a SWTJC student last March accused Gellar of harassment over an unfinished school project.
Gellar said the student had disassembled a group art project a few days before it was due.
Now undergoing counseling, Gellar also said she has not lost her temper since the other student "made me blow up a little bit and I started yelling at her."
McDonald said Gellar was not charged because she later avoided that student as instructed by police.
