Title: Where You're From
Post by: Icephoenyx on January 04, 2007, 11:12:22 PM
So where does everyone live around here? I am in Canada, I was thinking of moving maybe to the UK or Australia, or somewhere where I might fit in better w/ a bigger LGBT population. So what about all of you others?

We live west of Seattle and are trying to buy a small condo on Maui, too.  If our offer is accepted over the weekend, I'll be scared s******s.

I'm in the deepest darkest blue green pit of the United States, deep down in the gut of California, out of Sacramento.  Thats about 110 miles East of San Francisco.  We see it all kinds of up and down along the coast, even up into Oregon.  After all this Bliss and Blaw, I think I see where I'm at.

I'm from New York City. I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens.  I don't live there anymore, though.

Good luck on getting your condo, Robyn!  Does "small" mean there's no guest room?  ;)  :D

A little sea-side town in East Anglia, England. Dull ... Quaint.

Most people here are far too conservative to be in the Conservative party.

Hey there icyphoenyx...no need to move sooooooo far away...just go to Vancouver/Montreal/Toronto and you should be fine!  I'm in Montreal and it's hella trans-inclusive....although there are struggles like any other place!

Phoenyx

I'm from Melbourne Australia.

Not really into the LGBT population because I have my own friends network and they keep me grounded, lift me when needed and don't care what or who i am.

If you are thinking of moving to Australia, you better like the heat and no water lol.
Today we hit 38c 'morrow hotter. We are at like 40% water storage and it will get worse before it gets better. But we on the country on the beach ;)

I'm in Eastern NM - for the past 9 years. I left Seattle, and the middle of a transitioning process to move and help with my son growing up. When I left Seattle, I had been taking hormones for about 6 months, and beginning the transition into full time. I felt some guilt, and left that all behind.

For all these years, I kept my self well hidden from most, but it seems that the pressures to be "me" are now greater than ever. My problem is living in a VERY small town and not having easy access to resources.

Yes, I've been somewhat depressed lately, and feel stuck. I'm now 47, and time is ticking away at an ever increasing pace. I had let myself go for years, but in the past year have lost 29 pounds that I had gained, and am working toward losing another 10. For what reason? Who knows.

Greetings all.
I live in central Pa. Lot of nice down home folks here. Things to see and do are within two hours drive, 45min if you are brave or related to a judge. A bit "red" though, makes it hard to let my self go out in public.

I grew up near Saginaw, MI but live in Marysville, WA about 40 miles north of Seattle. The weather is usually mild year round and Seattle is very glbt friendly. Up here where I live, there is no glbt - we're just people.  ;)

Wow, a lot of you seem to be from Seattle, I heard it was very LGBT-orientated, almost like San Francisco :) also heard it's very expensive though, so is Seattle really all that? I was considering going there, since it's still close to home, but I don't really know yet. Any ideas/confirmations?
Title: Re: Where You're From
Post by: mikke on January 31, 2007, 09:10:22 PM
*nods*
I wouldn't call it LGBT oriented per se, but people are generally quite open-minded about that sort of thing. We have two huge pride celebrations now (the downtown one and the capital hill one), plus there's the gender odyssey conference that meets here annually.

Seattle can be expensive; it just depends on the area. There are a lot of surrounding suburbs and cities within 10-15 miles that I have found to be quite affordable even for me, the broke student.

I highly recommend seattle to everyone who is considering moving (I've convinced many a relative and several friends to move here though the years). I just love it here.

I hail from the McKenzie Valley in Oregon, but am willing to travel on a whim.

I visited Seattle once, and I'd love to go back. It rained, and I loved it. Anywhere with rain is good in my book. *makes another good mark for Seattle*

So where are the good suburbs of Seattle? Tacoma and stuff? I guess Marysville is good, but Karen, how can you go more north than Seattle? lol. That's practically Canada!! Maybe I'll think of it. I just don't like the idea of war-mongering Bush and all that other stuff. Plastic surgery is way cheaper here for FFS and I get SRS covered where I am now.

If you're on the west coast of Canada, Ice, you're already in one of the best areas to be trans in the world. If you're not, then Vancouver might be within reach for you, and you don't have to worry about immigration to the US, having to pay for medical care, or starting out in a new country.

I'm from Chicago.  Born there, grew up in the suburbs, went to college in St. Louis, lived in Boston for 1 year, Israel for 12 years, Manhattan for 2 years, and northern California for 3 years.  And now I'm back in Chicago for the past 3.5 years.
