Title: Hobbies
Post by: stephanie_craxford on August 26, 2005, 10:46:27 PM
Hey everyone...

I think that most of us have a hobby or two that we enjoy spending time doing.  I was wondering what are your hobbies, and for those who are transitioning, or have transitioned,  have you started enjoying a hobby that was traditionally reserved for the opposite sex/gender ?

For myself I enjoy woodworking, photography, and kayaking, although lately I haven't been able to devote much time to any of them.  It just seems as though there was something going on.  I guess kayaking is my favorite, the peace and quiet, and often the solitude, just you, mother nature and your thoughts.

Chat later,

Steph

My hobby is computer graphics (which is the same as my job finally).  In fact I'm working on an animated short movie that represents my coming out of my shell and accepting my female side.  If it doesn't become one of my many other unfinished projects, I'll have a link to it here some time.

Many will think this boring but my hobby is academia. I enjoy learning and researching. Of particular interest is the learning of adults.

All those years waiting for school to finish and look at me now still at school :).

Skiing, woodworking, gaming, walking, reading. I used to play a lot of tennis, but the gender issues complicate that, at least in a formal club setting. I was joking with the nurse at my doctor's office that I was taking a break from it because I was the only person in the club who could play mixed singles.

the main hobby I love but never have time or $ to do is photography, mainly black and white photography. I love going to the Ringling Art Museum down here and walking around in their gardens photographing statues. I walk around each piece a few times to find different angles to shoot from.

digital photography, flying, camcorder photography, flying taildraggers, flying ultralights, swimming, writting poetry, shopping, yard sales, thrift stores and partying!

I  love seeing blues, rockabilly and rock bands live, getting a hottub room, partying all night, flying for a $100 hamburger, filming my girlfriend, drinkin ice cold beer, eating hot chilli and watching Chiefs football, sittin in the huttub the next day, BBQing steak, going swimming in the creek, shooting beer cans for target practice on the edge of a pond, going to the lake and spending the night in our tent with my babydoll.

Hobbies? I don't have any time for hobbies....LOL

Love

Ha, ha, Deb,  I can see that your life is your hobby.  It doesn't seem as though you have much time for work, or being sad  :D

Anyway, active lives are so healthy, and lead to active minds.

Take care :)

Hi Steph:

I guess you and I do have some hobbies in common.  I do like woodworking and in fact just recently got a new wood lathe set up that I bought last nov.  While I do not get a lot of time to work at it in the summer, it is a nice relief when you want something to take away the daily stress.
I also love camping.  I just bought a new 2005 travel trailer in the spring, and if all goes well I hope to be able to use  it for a month thiis November.
Hobbies are great for all of us, and a great stress reliever.

I like music - listening, of course, but also playing (guitar, a little piano) and singing.  I like nature - birdwatching and fishing are a couple of things I enjoy, the fishing not so much for bringing home a catch as for spending quiet, relaxing times by the water.  I like taking walks around dusk.  I like computers, of course, internet stuff and games being some enjoyable preoccupations.  And I like to do a little recreational mathematics, any thing from coming up with probability spaces for casino games to producing obscure results in topology. :)

Photography and writing have to be at the top of the list.  Before I left Kodak, I was shooting 60 to 70 rolls of color neg film a year.  Now, I am starting to dabble in digital imaging.

I'd love to get back into flying, but I need to lose a chunk of weight before I can do that.

My cooking has become much more creative these past couple of years.  I won a dessert contest at church the other week.  (Homemade French Vanilla ice cream, made with real vanilla beans.  Served on top of a fresh chocolate brownie.)  I went to visit my step mother the other week, I made dinner one night and wow'ed her.  (Grilled Cornell chicken; grilled corn on the cob; steamed green beans; "fun" pasta with olive oil, bread crumbs, grated cheese and freshly steamed brocolli.  Baked pears with ice cream for dessert.)

I'd love to learn how to sew, but that will be for later.

My other hobbies are using the internet, listening to music, reading, writing, and sometimes computer games.

My hobbies include Radio Controlled vehicles and my real vehicle.  I really enjoy my radio controlled cars and truck but I have recently started controlled aircrafts.  I guess the older you get you need find the erg to upgrade.  I own, operate, and do all the work to my 1996 Ford Probe.  Currently I am doing some body work.

..similar, cept I bought an electric Bass. I have always wanted to learn to play, but never had the patience. It all stems back my mispent youth when I was a roadie, still run a website and roadie for one band that I was really close with, whom reformed in 2000. They are 'New Wave Of British Heavy Metal' genre, not my scene anymore, but it gets me out a few times a year, usually to my two favourites countries, Holland and Germany (where they still have a following).

Computers are online gaming were big hobbies of mine, but I feel they are in decline within me now.

I enjoying reading, usually biographies or science fiction. I am a big fan of the Wheel of Time.

A few years back I got heavily into genealogy, but hit a brick wall and life got to busy. I intend to pick this back up again.

I also used to enjoy designing and maintaining websites, another thing I have sadly let drop.

My new hobby is finding out who the hell I am   :)

I don't think the things I like to do have changed much since I transitioned.

I like to play tennis (now I just do it in a tennis skirt), I like to bike ride (now I have a girls bike), I like to go hiking and tent camping.  I love the outdoors and I go up (higher than I live) in the mountains and sit on the rocks and just look over the valley.

I always liked to experiment with cooking different things and also sewing.  Reading has always been a passion for me too, any type from science fiction to romance.

Music.  I play guitar primarily but picked up drums a few years ago and play at least a half hour a day.  Great for exercise, anger management, and fun.

Photography like several others here.  I am putting a website together and will display some of my photography.

Stormchasing.  My partner and I have been into stormchasing for many years and devote 2-3 weeks a year chasing from Texas to Wisconsin.  We have a website which will be linked to mine.

i'm an academic and my studies are my hobby (medieval history and gender studies), other hobbies: poetry (reading/writing), cycling, walking, music, learning to sing, learning photography,

have a passive interest in martial arts, now practice tai chi and want to do the kung fu side of that instead... am looking  for a group to do that, ... somehow i have an issue w/ women's groups, don't want to fight women... stupid really cos they want to be there, and it's surely something the culture has tought me that i should unlearn...

resolution for 2006 (yeah, it's early but if I prepare the list now and tell everyone, maybe i'll actually do it): join kung fu class, get over at least one issue lol

I'm an avid birdwatcher and nature love. Love to go to new places to explore nature.
I was president of the local Audubon Club for a few years.
I like photographs and art, mostly with computers in resent years.

Chance yes I seem to enjoy the colors red, orange, yellow blue, green ...... of nature in nature. The world is more alive to me in colors, fragrances and even textures (touch).
It's like I've been inside the house looking out. But now I'm outside.

Sorry I'm just blabbing on and on.

Since I do not sleep a lot I tend to do quite a bit of reading.  Polished off the sixth book of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series the other day.  Good read and it took the entire day to take my time and read it cover to cover.

I also like listening to music, going hiking, soccer, shooting, martial arts (when I can afford), playing with the ferrets, computer stuff (gaming, browsing, whatever), and paintball (since the late 80s. <G>).

My decidedly masculine hobbies: programming, flying airplanes, playing video games (Ace Combat 5 is awesome!!!)... that's about it, unless reckless driving can be considered a hobby. Oh, and I like taking pictures but I don't know the first thing about photography.

Hobbies I've given up or lost interest in: shooting, writing music, playing bass, and DJ'ing (mostly drum 'n' bass).

Huh?  Women don't fly, program, game, or drive recklessly?  Women can do anything they want and often do  :)
