Title: Asked for my little brother's opinion
Post by: Sam- on January 22, 2011, 05:01:25 PM
I have not talked to anyone about trans issues before, but I was talking to my little brother earlier and decided to throw something at him because I figured he wouldn't think much of it. He's seven, and we are super close, because of our age difference (I'm 19) I've helped take care of him a lot. Anyways, I was just like "What if I was your brother instead of your sister?" and with no hesitation he said "You'd still be nice to me and be funny, gender doesn't matter." Words of wisdom from a little kid, it was so nice. I let it drop after that, of course, but if I ever decide to further this whole thing I think he'll be totally cool with it, I'm so happy  ;D
(and he tells me often that I look like a boy anyways, it's quite funny)

Anyone else have similar reactions from children?

Awesome that you have your little brother's support.  He sounds like a nice kid.

Younger people are usually more accepting.  They don't have all the preconceived notions about what's 'OK' and what isn't.

Yeah, my brother is 10. When I talked to my mom infront of him He kept on saying He understood when my mom was confused and didn't really like it. He kept asking if I wanted to be called his brother and He, He was cool with it. He kinda sees me more like that anyways and when He says something bout me at school thats normally 'boyish', his friends laugh and say mean stuff and that upsets him. ALso his friends always call me brother or him when the see me and it kinda seems awkward for him so He would not mind calling me male pronouns at all. But I don't want confusion and my mom getting mad so I told him not to. HE treats me like a bro anyways. Kids are usually cool.
