Quote"Girls who labeled themselves as lesbian or bisexual were especially at risk for unequal treatment," said Himmelstein. "They reported experiencing twice as many police stops, arrests and convictions as other girls who had engaged in similar behavior. Although we did not explore the experiences of transgender youth, anecdotal reports suggest that they are similarly at risk for excessive punishment."

I think this is really unfortunate, but true. My senior year of high school after I started, even though subtly, expressing my "alternative sexuality" I got into more trouble than I ever did! I was called to the principals office more times that year than all of my school life, and got so much heat from other administrators I never got before. It was so odd to me, because during my whole school life I was a perfect student, never misbehaved, blah blah.. I think I was perceived as "rebellious". :(

I think, because of this type of behavior on behalf of the authorities, we need people to truly be rebellious.
