Title: Anyone have pre-school kids?
Post by: helios502 on January 22, 2011, 10:44:30 PM
Hi--my partner is transitioning (FTM), had top surgery Dec 9, and has been on T for 8 days now. No changes yet T-wise, but they are likely to emerge soon. We are both in our 40s, and so we don't know many people who have transitioned who also have kids. Is there anyone out there in this category? what did you tell your kids, and how did it go? Any advice? thx, Helios. (PS if it matters I am female).

I don't have kids but I do have nieces and nephews, in the school and preschool age range.  I haven't mentioned anything to them, but one of my nephews connected the dots on his own.  He asked me the other day if I wanted to be a boy (he's 9...smart little guy  :) ) He didn't have a problem with it.

I have a 7 year old. I told her I have a boy brain and that I was going to take medicine so my outside will be a boy too so that they will match. She took it fine, but I should've told her she will always be my kid because later she was crying saying I'd have to get rid of her because "boys don't have babies". -.- I told her she will always be mine and not to worry and I mentioned seahorse daddies have babies and she goes "we're not sea creatures"...that smart @ss lol.  I swear she's 7 going on 13.

thanks for your stories, all. I appreciate it. It is amazing what the kids accept that others don't. Next stop: the school. First parent council meeting tonight. best, Helios
