Title: Angry pre t+getting t=bad?
Post by: emoboi on January 23, 2011, 05:36:48 PM
I was told if you have an anger problem and you aren't on t yet and if you get t then that could be a problem

Might be a good idea to have some sessions with a psychiatrist when you first start T in that case. But I got really angry occasionally pre-t and I've noticed since starting I'm calmer and able to handle my emotions better now.

Testosterone does not make a person angry or unstable or aggressive.
Hormonal imbalance can.

So you can get a little off kilter while you're balancing out, but T itself won't make anger worse.

I have been clinically diagnosed as having bipolar disorder an ADD. I've noticed that the T has helped my mood stabilize a bit (in addition to my prescribed psychiatric med) so it all depends. The whole "roid rage" myth with testosterone is just that - a myth.

But also keep in mind that everyone is different. I've noticed that for the first few days after an injection it's easier for me to get irritable, but it's also much easier for me to calm down. I don't usually start getting emotionally wacky until towards the end of my injection cycle.

The whole testosterone= aggression thing is based on male stereotype and is inaccurate.

Apparently steroid abuse can lead to the rage noted. I think it is as Min stated, a hormone imbalance.

If you have anger issues, I recommend seeing someone to get the bottom of it. T won't make it better or worse, it's just stuff you have to sort out.  I have bipolar disorder and it's taken me a couple of years of psychiatry and therapy to get my moods sorted and I'm extremely glad I did. I wouldn't start T without getting moods sorted first, it's very important.
