Title: So, Do You Like Chocolate Now (mtf) or Not Anymore (ftm)
Post by: erocse on January 25, 2011, 10:06:26 AM

I know this is a kinda funny post. Everyone knows that girls like, I should say love chocolate. All the girls I know can sit around and talk about how much they love chocolate and what type and brand is the best. I ,on the other hand ,have always went for the peanut brittle, sweet tarts gummy worms, heck I would have rather ate just plain old nut then chocolate. ???

Now everything has changed since going on hrt. I love chocolate, in fact I think I now like it more then my wife.(chocolate that is) :) She thinks this is very funny. Every time I reach for the chocolate she likes to tease  me about how I used to be.

I was wondering if any of you have experienced the same changes ?

And if your are ftm, have you lost the taste for chocolate?

   Hugs, Roxy

I don't think it's a gender deal, its a drug, one a lot of people like.  I often note that the only things at my theaters that are kept under lock and key are liquor and candy.

I always have. And indeed at that time of the month it becomes a positive craving! The darker and bitterer the better.

So unlimited chocolate or red hot sex with the man or woman of your choice? There is really no contest...

Chocolate of course - what on earth else did you think I was going to choose!

I agree.  Just about everyone I know likes chocolate, regardless of their gender.

It's OK.  But I'm really more of a peanut butter person.

I'm an irredeamable chocolate addict. I generally eat it every day.

Not a fan of Belgion chocolate though. British and Swiss.

I quite like it, and can eat a lot of it, but I don't crave it and I'm not mad on it. It will be interesting to see whether I go off it when I'm on T.

Now, that depends on the chocolate..

White chocolate just tastes like butter with a sprinkle of vanilla sugar to me. Utterly disgusting.

Milk chocolate is a little fatty for my tastes. And some milk chocolate feels a little chalky in the mouth, like the Swedish made chocolate.. :/

Now... give me a dark chocolate that melts in my mouth, and I'll melt along with it.
Give me a cup of coffee with it, and I'll be yours for the day!

Miniar: Hmmm... tempting offer. But I'm still eating that chocolate myself.

I like chocolate. Don't love it, but like it. I especially like dark chocolate with milk - take a bite, take a sip, chew the chocolate with the milk still in your mouth, and you get something much, much tastier than normal milk chocolate. I don't know whether or not other people have cottoned on to this magnificent discovery of mine yet, but I'm sure they will.

I used to looove white chocolate, but then lost my taste for it gradually. And American chocolate is of the Devil (my dad said it tasted like puke. I agreed. I still ate it, though).

Norwegian milk chocolate with roasted, caramelized and salted almond pieces in it is great, as is that Icelandic milk chocolate with salty liquorice inside.

English chocolate is my favorite, though Italian and German are runners-up.  If I could get my hands on a nice Cadbury bar or some kinder eier, I'd be the happiest person alive.

I'm not transitioning currently, though.  But whole family loves chocolate, regardless of their sex and gender.  I seem to be the only one who won't eat American chocolate, though, unless it's super dark chocolate.  Milk chocolate is too sweet for me. XP

Chocolate runs from my house.  Always has.  I would main line the stuff if I could.

Dark chocolate is my favorite.

Milk chocolate is good in a pinch.

White chocolate and Macadamia nuts, you can do whatever you want to me.  ;D

And yes I am one of those crazy people who likes beer and chocolate.  Guinness and dark is best.

I even have had baker's chocolate.  Grab a bar and yumm.

Do you get Galaxy in the states?

A a hand full of peanuts and some Galaxy, eaten together.

Best combination since peanut butter and raspbury jam.

On a recent road trip I bought my son a Dove chocolate bar. After a lifetime of crappy Hershey bars, his eyes flew open and he exclaimed "Why didn't anybody tell me about this! This is the food of the gods!"  ;D Anyway, there is some decent American chocolate out there. It isn't all Hershey bars, kisses and M&Ms.

Oh, that reminds me. My ex once applied to a job at M&M Mars. Along with the company materials, they provided a box with one of each if their products. That left quite an impression!

I like the dark chocolate M&M's, actually.  Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.

And then there is my weakness:  Ferrero Rondnoir.  I'm not sure what "rondnoir" means, but I imagine that it translates into "makes you weak in the knees"

To those who like English chocolate I have to say that while any chocolate is nice I fear can't really agree.

Now that DID change, but probably with age. When I was younger I liked English chocs, but recently I find that it really doesn't work for me and I can appreciate the greater sophistication of some other manufacturers.

French Swiss or Belgian Artisan chocolates which melt in the mouth without leaving that horrible greasy residue are infinitely preferable to my taste.

English chocolate is often too sweet and vanillary, and to be honest not really chocolatety enough.

A nice dark Criollo 80% single estate chocolate is much niced

XD I've tried all sorts of American chocolate hoping to find one that I like, but I haven't so far. =X  Dove (dark) is the only one I can really stand.  Everything else...not so much.  And nothing is as good as Maltesers. XD I could eat the hell out of some of those...and kinder eier or the kinder hippos.  Mostly the Maltesers.  T.T I wish we had them here.

Try Scharffen Berger made in Berkeley, it was a bit better before they sold it to Hershey's, but it's still pretty OK.

XOX Truffles Inc. in the Castro makes homemade truffles in 27 yummy flavors, and Joseph Schmidt Confections in the same area is also very good.

This one. So much. Oh god, I love it!!!!

Yes, I also like more "manly" candy, such as this:
(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fodagroda.blogg.se%2Fimages%2F2009%2Fdjungelvrl_58039572.jpg&hash=090ac6f852b4fe6fe4c77e126328342551e95283)
The candies are salty licquorice, and the white stuff on them is pure salt. If you have any kind of small wounds in the mouth, this will sting slightly. Eating them with a canker sore in your mouth is pure madness.

(https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ekoexpressen.se%2Fimages%2Fproduct_images%2Fpopup_images%2F490_1.jpg&hash=1d7992357cedb837aaf15ff18f1782b0c02fa9e4)
These things are soooo freakin' good!!! I've always loved these, ever since I first tasted part of one when I was like 3. Sweet licquorice, not the same as the ones above.

Well, "round black" would certainly describe the candies.  They are round and black.

Ferrero is the brand that makes them.

I've always been sorta indifferent toward chocolate.

At times I don't mind it, but rarely if ever find myself craving it.

I will say that I've been vegetarian for 18 months and was full fledged vegan for around four of those months and when vegan found myself missing quite a bit, milk chocolate wasn't really one of those things.

Very interested if seeing how things might change if I transition.

I'm not huge fan of chocolate but now and then it's great.

I cope by having my parents send me copious amounts of chocolates and candies from England. ;D ;D Otherwise, I generally don't eat chocolate (or ice cream for that matter--I'm not fond of our ice cream either. xD) unless it's 70% dark or more.

@ Pixieboy:  I love that sweet licorice stuff! :D  I tried it at a candy shop in Norwich and about died.  It was so, so, so good.  I also tried this sour candy called Snot Shots that was made in China and it was really sour, and terribly good.

Yeah Ferrero is good stuff.

If I'm going to eat chocolate, tend to prefer the dark stuff most of the time. My little brother/roommate can't stand dark chocolate.

I have family and friends who are right there with him and I for one don't understand it. To me there's no comparison between a well made dark chocolate and any other type.

Yes...I love chocolate...positively crave chocolate at times. But then I read the labels and drop them in horror when i see how much saturated fat is in them.

If I didn't read the labels I'd be doomed...and fat.

I went to Switzerland once back in high school and fell in love with Cailler Frigor chocolate. I brought back a whole bunch with me and put it in my freezer, but my family ate it all in a day! I was so mad. I had a work colleague bring some back a few years ago and it was great. 20 years between bites of the same brand!

I have tried Lindt, but I have never liked it. Too fatty and not enough chocolate flavor for my taste.

Take it from a true chocoholic those lindor are as good as it gets in mass produced chocolate. Only thing better is some of the exclusive hand made brands and at many tens of dollars a bar for the most exclusive brands they certainly aren't cheap.

This is stuff pretty darn good too:

Actually the opposite happened to me to completely turn the gender sterotype on it's head I was worried if I would crave it more before I had a massive sweet tooth as a male. I could buy a whole bar and I'd eat that throughout a day and eat nothing else. (thus I wouldn't gain weight) I'd never do that now.

Chocolate it's okay but it dosen't taste anywhere near as good as it used to. It really noticed it when a friend tempted me into eating a chocolate eclair and I just sighed it tasted so much better in my memory.

Despite sweetness dropping off I currently now really love savory spicy and sour food now oh god lemons are lush I could totally dig lemons!

Thus instead of chocolate now I'm more prone to eating gelatine sweets or sour gelatine sweets if I'm treating myself.

I have always lived chocolate,  especially dark.  When I lived in Seattle in the early 90's I discovered chocolate covered espresso beans which I could easily OD on. My favorite chocolate memory is of an espreesso float at a little coffee house by University of Washington.  It had a shot of hot espresso in the bottom with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, peanuts and whipped cream on top. It was heaven.....   :-)

My first exposure to those chocolate covered coffee beans ...yeah I had no clue you could OD on them....I ate an entire bag in 30 minutes.
My boss sent me home about an hour into it.

Now I only eat a few of them at a sitting.

There is really no contest...

Chocolate of course - what on earth else did you think I was going to choose!

Let's face it.  You can have good chocolate a lot more often than you can have, or even find, a good man!  :D

There are a number of studies that have shown the euphoric affects that accompany chocolate.

Anecdotally, I have found that since I started HRT, I am much more attracted to dark chocolate than milk chocolate.  The 30%+ and better type.  The really hard stuff.  There is a chocolatier in the old neighborhood I used to live in that make their own chocolate.  Just going in there can give me a buzz from the aroma!

Ooohhh, now I jonesing...  Where did I leave that last bar of Lindt...

Meh. I like chocolate, sure, sometimes, but I've never really craved it, can only take so much. I usually prefer fruit flavoured sweets, caramels, or licorice (but oh god please never ever Finnish licorice ever again...shudder. And nothing sweetened with xylitol.)

I've actually been eating a bit more chocolate lately, though, Been slowly working on a Milky Way all day. And I had a Dove bar last week. I used to really like German chocolates. Don't get the obsession with them though. Given the choice of steak or chocolate, I'll always take the steak. Red meat...now that's a drug.

I'm a  failed chocoholics goer. BTW no such thing as white chocolate.

Chocolate is brown, darker the better.

I have mad chocolate cravings now and then, so bad that I dig through my room, looking for a couple bucks, go to the mini-mart and raid the shelves. I usually end up coming home with a bag of gummiworms. lol.

I haven't started hormones so I may reconsider this question once I'm on T. I wouldn't mind losing my interest in chocolate though. It's kind of slowing me down from getting that nice beach body.

I've always loved chocolate but now I get the occasional craving; I must eat chocolate now! It seems to take less to satisfy me now.

I do like milk chocolate but none of the typical American stuff. A friend who went to Salzburg introduced me to Milka. Hard to find in the US but really good.

For the darker stuff it has to be Moonstruck. They are out of Oregon and hard to stay away from when I drive by their stores.

I've always liked chocolate, though I'm rather picky about it. I only like the good stuff that's made with real cocoa and not alot of artifical ingredients. My favorite is Green & Black's, but it's pretty expensive so I only get it when I find it on sale. It is certainly a good day when that happens =)

I'm way pickier when it comes to beer than I am with chocolate.  Give me a hershey bar any day and I'm a happy camper.  Besides, nothing makes a better s'more than hershey's milk chocolate.

Chocolate knows no sex or gender.

Chocolate knows only good taste.  :)

(and I have no problem saying that I could give Troi from Star Trek a run for her money as far as chocolate consumption!)

Also, you haven't fully lived until you've eaten Belgian chocolate.  The French come in a close second.  I will not comment about what I think of UK or US chocolate compared to good chocolate, other than to say it is still chocolate and thus a good thing.  :)

Extra dark chocolate, 70%...
There are no words for how good those are...

Tried these tonight. Found them at Target for like $2 and change. I like the dark chocolate shell, but the truffle filling still tastes too greasy for me.

THIS.

Also, while I've always loved chocolate, I no longer HAVE to have it. I can take  it or leave it.  But who in thier right mind leaves chocolate....

If you gave me a choice between that and steak however, screw the candy XD. I crave steak alot now.

.... When I get payed this tuesday, I'm marching my shrinking ass right up to Bónus and obtaining a whale-meat steak!
It's like the softest, richest, most beautiful cut of beef you can imagine, that's infused with seasalt.. making it taste a little bit like the smell of the ocean.
And the proper way to cook it is "seared on the outside, deep red on the inside!"

I've always liked chocolate, but only dark chocolate will do.  Milk chocolate tastes gross to me now - a bit of a change since it was tolerable before.

As for the other line of conversation in this thread, my love of meats has not gone away.  I can't eat super-greasy meat anymore, but give me a properly prepared cheeseburger and I will melt with pleasure.

I generally never had a good taste for sweets. Very recently my mother 'donated' a bag of chocolate snacks to us. I decided to eat a couple because I was bored. Needless to say I've become an addict.

I don't know what it is, but chocolate just tastes so much better than I remember. But it tastes EXACTLY the same, it's surreal.
