What is horribly offensive is people trying to destroy freedom of speech. If you do not like something stop watching it and spending your money for it. You can stop your cable subscription.
(I am not stating any opinion on the sketch, but rather just commenting on the "destroying freedom of speech" comment)
It's not destroying freedom of speech to, as a private citizen, ask a private company to not do anything.
(in fact, expressing your disagreement with something you hear someone say is the most important thing we get to do with free speech)
Destroying free speech would be, for instance, making it illegal for the network to air the show. That's not what anyone is doing (nor does anyone here have that ability).
Besides...how is someone, as a private citizen, asking a network to stop airing something any worse than a network executive deciding not to show something (which likely happens daily) or an advertiser asking that their product not be shown negatively (or risk losing the advertising)? In fact, I think the executive or advertiser doing it is likely much worse for society.

What is horribly offensive to me is someone like you who tries to destroy MY freedom speech. And my freedom to protest.
I'm...not feeling offended. I don't get offended very easily, though.
Certainly wasn't tasteful, but I didn't necessarily think it was horrible.
They didn't have the first character describe themselves as "a female in the wrong body," though.
The first person described himself as a guy...that's what they got wrong.
MtF's have never been guys...maybe women in denial, but not guys.
But I also can't help but think ,"Gee, wouldn't that be nice."
Sorry. Carry on.
It won't let me watch the sketch because I'm in Canada. Can anyone summerize it for me and others who can't load the video?
Thanks
i saw this on another site a few hours ago, and shared it on facebook. then right after a friend who's a trans said she thought it was funny :o i feel terrible for actual trans women (besides the one who for some reason thinks it's funny), the farther into it goes the worse it got, a couple guys have beards, the airport guy looks aroused at the bearded one and i was just floored, who the hell knows how someone wrote that and it never occurred to them that no one would be offended by it.
I'm sure everyone at SNL knew it was offensive. That seems to be the easiest way to get lots of attention and they don't care if it's negative. Family Guy is another example.
Wow... there are people who actually found this funny? Not only is it offensive but I thought it was kind of stupid too. And uncalled for really. Thanks for posting Dana hopefully the company will change their mind and remove it.
I have not found SNL to be entertaining for a very long time but....
I do find them to be an equal opportunity offender just like
South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons, etc.

We all have our say including the media. What you do not see is the propaganda.
I am not a thick-skinned person. I tend to take things personally when I shouldn't. And I can honestly say that was amusing. No, it wasn't as funny as some of their other stuff, or perhaps as creative, but I enjoyed the humor.
If you can't laugh at yourself, you've got a stick up your butt. Like someone said over on dA where I heard about this a day ago: if we want equality that means equal ribbing.
I saw the skit on Youtube after some lady on Deviantart whined about it on a group.
It's not funny, but it's not offensive. Transpeople joke like this all the time, and SNL makes fun of everything and everyone.
Why can't people laugh at themselves more?
...I like Family Guy and American Dad and Sou-well, no, I only like South Park when I'm high. But. This certainly wasn't funny, it was just stupid. I'm not sure if I find it offensive. Would I find it offensive if it wear aimed at FtM's? Maybe. Probably not. But I can see why it would offend people. But...I think we should all look at Dave Days here, heh. If you can make laugh at some people...you should be able to laugh at them all, you know? If you don't find any of those jokes funny, dumb blonde jokes and the like, then I totally support you wanting to stop this. Dumb blonde jokes are certainly offensive to blondes, but they've put up with them forever. Everyone gets picked on sometimes, sorry.
It isn't my goal to come off as dick ish, by the way. I really am sorry if it seems like that. It's almost five in the morning and I'm on my second night of no sleep, so my judgement is impaired.

It's SNL. You expected it to be funny?
Ok, I just saw it, and now I want to punch things.
Umm i have just one thing to say. SNL makes fun of EVERYONE, not just TG people. It's nothing new hell a few years ago south park did that whole SRS thing with Mr. Gassion. It's how we handle ourselves when something like this come up that matters. Let us not go screaming into the streets making a fit over something like this. Les us save our outrage for something that matters like the transgender day of remembrance, or when something that matters comes up, this is just silly SNL dribble.
Ok that was more then one thing...
That doesn't justify it. Normalcy of degredation does not make it acceptable, especially in a case where it is reinforcing stereotypes about a socially oppressed group struggling to advance in society.
The only thing that I found to be funny at all was the final line: "Nature got in your way, your hormones shouldn't".
I didn't necessarily find it offensive, more like in poor taste. Nor did it put any sort of positive image of transgendered peoples. If anything, it de-legitimatized the amount of work and struggling it takes to actually transition.
I think we need to move beyond writing letters and complaining when it comes to things like this. I believe it would be most proactive, as an example, if a bunch of trans-people stormed 30 Rockefeller Center, passed security, and did a sit in on the set of SNL. During a live taping.
But that's just my opinion (and NOT a call to action - I don't want to get banned).

I don't think anyone is calling for an aggressive revolt, just people making observations.
Define "aggressive."
Quote from: HillaryThompson on February 17, 2011, 03:17:52 AMI don't think becoming angry and mobbing to the streets is any way to handle it. I believe a more thoughtful, peaceful, loving and education-driven approach will be more effective 100% of the time.
How exactly would that be done?
Well I am late in reading this post. When I went to the link it had been removed altogether. So I suppose that is that. :) I am in the dark about the hub bub. Oh well.

Boy is that flat-out chicken ->-bleeped-<- behavior. "Oh I came up with the idea (and you have so obviously never been anywhere near Rockefeller Center or major broadcasting facilities if you think this is even remotely possible) and encouraged it, but don't blame me when people do it."
If Gimli was thinking that you just don't walk into Mordor, let me assure you that major TV production facilities, in a landmark building, in post-9-11 New York have much better security then Mordor could ever have dreamed of.

Why are you such a bitch to me on whatever thread we both happen to be on? What did I do to you?
I don't like irresponsibility. If you are going to say something, own it, if not, don't say anything. But don't say it and then turn around and go 'you can't blame me for it.' Don't advocate anything that you're not willing to be the first one to do.

That has nothing to do with you acting crappy and self-righteous toward other people.

I retired the old blog but here is the article on the new one.

Then you wasted your time and life. Read a book instead of watching video.
Comedy is offensive by nature, if it's not offensive to someone it's not funny to anyone. Being a joke is a huge step up from being a victim or the bad guy psychopathic murderer. And don't worry. The next step after being funny is to be boring. Your life is next in line.

I didn't see the video because NBC blocked it. But your comment describes most of the stuff on SNL. If you take it personally it can be offensive. It's great when you're high but if you're sober it can often be very lame.
But it's still a good thing to let them know that a lot of people suffer when a stigma is perpetuated. Think about the evolution of what is now "the N word". A lot of work by a lot of people went into erasing that particular word from the English language. If we make enough noise, maybe one day there will be "the T word".
In that case... What's up my ->-bleeped-<-s? Why do I have the feeling that I just threw gasoline on the embers?
Or it just makes it hysterical. Ask Dave Chappelle.
Black White Supremist Dave Chappelle Complete (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHFUH_frhBw#)
Perhaps his best skit. "I divorced that ->-bleeped-<- (there I wrote it) loving bitch."
Funny is funny, but nothing (and this is the point of a lot of this) has the ability to cut crap to the bone that comedy has. Which is why comedy is so powerful.

Sorry I just saw your comment but that is very true. Personally the "T word" doesn't bother me much because words don't often bother me but maybe one day that will be the case.
I've thought on it a lot more and I think my biggest problem with this is not specifically the skit itself but the fact that there really isn't much about trans people in any positive light so this just further "proves" to some ignorant people that you gals are all like that while we all know that you are nothing like that. Also it's on a popular channel on a somewhat popular show so it wasn't a small amount of people to see it. Just my opinions though.
