Title: How to Become a Gender Therapist?
Post by: Devin87 on February 03, 2011, 06:55:13 PM
I've been looking for information online on programs that will train you to be a therapist.  I'm looking to go back to school for my Masters soon and thought it might be a good field for me.  But I can't seem to find any programs for it.  Do any exist?  Does anyone here know how I could go about becoming a gender therapist?

I believe the usual path is to get a degree in Family Therapy, but also taking specialty sub-courses in gender, kids etc.

I don't know the answer to your question. It seems like a great idea though. :)

Hugs.

There is probably some prerequisite undergraduate coursework that needs to be done before you would get accepted into a masters program that would allow you to become a therapist. A quick Google search turns up an article at About.com - pretty informative on how to become a therapist.

It looks like there are a few masters degrees that might work.

I would suggest asking your therapist.  If you don't have a current one, contact several therapists and ask them how they got started.
