Post by: ConfusedMichelle on January 10, 2007, 05:37:25 PM
I want to go to school to become a Gender Therapist.

Is this a type of psychologist or psychiatrist? To be a psychiatrist, you have to go through med school first eeek  :-\

I would think it would be a type of psychologist, but I got to thinking today and I'm not sure?

Can yall help me out?

They can be both.  You are correct in that generally speaking a psychiatrist usually has completed their medical residency and have gone on to a specialty in psychiatry, therefore they are afforded hospital credentials, can admit patients, and prescribe medications.  A psychologist does not have the medical component.  Of course this is how it is in Canada it probably varies in other countries.
