Title: Seeking Thoughts / Opinions (New Medical Procedure)
Post by: Kyndra R. on February 12, 2011, 12:36:27 PM
Hello Everyone,

I have been cleared for my surgery for just over a month now but I have been researching doctors, procedures, techniques, risks, and outcomes for well over a year.  It is a topic (in general) I have given excruciating thought to for most of my life since discovering it and its incongruence with myself at a very early age.  I have been pondering something in particular most recently and I would like to ask the opinion of those who might ponder the idea a moment themselves and share their thoughts.

The fastest way to start getting thoughts out on the table is to read this little article (it's very brief):
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/08/100818112711.htm (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/08/100818112711.htm)
That should give you the general premise to the question;
The Question:
Would you opt for a skin graft like this over sig colon, inversion, or other grafting methods if it was an option to you?

And, does anyone have ideas on how to facilitate the knowledge sharing and persuading a doctor to perform this for me as part of my GRS?

Thanks  :)

As an MtF trans-person, penile inversion seems to be the easiest and most reliable surgery.  Occasionally, additional skin grafts are necessary to provide depth and/or strength to the neo-vagina, but this is an exception, not the rule.

Could you imagine how wonderful this would be? If the skin is similar to that of real vaginal skin, then our vagina's could be.. moist.. teheheh. :o

Well for some of us it is moist anyway - if you are lucky your skin will slowly morph from exo-skin to internal skin, but yes this sounds like an interesting alternative technique.

My big question with this procedure would be about nerve tissue.

While  the skin in your mouth has nerves, its no where near as sensitive as your already present genitalia.

This sounds excellent and very promising.

from what I understand the sensitivity comes from the penile part of the inversion, the scrotal bit is less sensitive and gives the depth...this is really no different to a real vagina, the vestibule is the most sensitive part. at least with using a skin graft using tissue from the cheek thins would likely be more self lubricating.

The surgeon has a lot of factors to consider before surgery is performed.

1. The material available at the outset. That's the size of the penis. This determines the depth.
2. The elasticity of the penile skin. This also determines the depth.
3. Technique. Inversion, Inversion with scrotal graph. Inversion and colon graph. This is determined beforehand by size of penis.

Inversion seems to be the chosen route as this is the most reliable and least likely to fail, ie, prolapse. You don't want a prolapse.

4. Average length of a female vagina is just 4 inches so anything beyond that is a bonus, lol.

If your penis measures say 6 inches it is likely that you will have a vaginal depth of between 5-6 inches dependent of the elasticity of the skin.

The article seems to be for biological females and as such would not have the said material to build a new vaginal cavity that transsexual woman have. Also as has been said the penile skin is way more sensitive than say skin from the inside of the mouth. It is more sensitive than a biological female vaginal cavity.
