Title: Being Outed
Post by: Crypt77 on February 14, 2011, 12:33:44 AM
It was bound to happen. I already saw it happening. I knew it'd happen but I didn't know when. I have been working at McDonald's for a little bit over a year now, and recently became a manager. The great part is, by this time anyone who has been working with me for more than a year knows that I'm transexual and in the process of transitioning. They're cool with it. They use the correct pronouns, call me the correct name and so on. Hell, most of them has even told me that they never reallly see me as a girl and when the found out the first time they were blown away.

But working in fast food means that you're constantly receiving new employees. We just received a hand full recently. They all see me as male, no problem. Everyone does. It's even better now because in a while I came out to my non-english speaking co-workers too with my new manager uniform, which is the male uniform. I get to wear a tie to work now :D

But being amongst young adults/teenagers you're constantly getting gossip, rumors and so forth. I guess I'm just one of the many topics some of my co-workers talk about. It's nothing bad though. They talk about my situation.

Well one of my co-workers recently asked me about it. At first I felt kinda...shocked and upset. I guess my biggest fear is having them see me differently or being labeled as the "FTM Transexual". Or assume things about me that are not true. I dunno.

Anyone ever been in a situation like this?

If they see you for what you are, is that going to be bad?

Ahh, but see you are different now.  You are the boss, you are no longer 'one of them' you are now 'the other.'

Special - You're right. But Maybe I'm just upset that I didn't get a chance to tell or out myself and some other people outed me. I'm a fairly private person. As long as my co-workers sees me as male, I don't mind so much.

Tekla - Haha...is that a good thing?

A good boss, doesn't need to explain. He just needs to be fair, firm and friendly.

A great boss hires employees that either a) know enough that they don't have to have things explained to them, or b) are there to do the work and the explanation doesn't matter.

Haha, thanks guys for the support and back up. Seriously. Makes me feel a bit better about the situation. And judging from the last few days at work, seems like everything is going ok. :D
