Writer, speaker and activist Eli Clare spoke at a seminar, "Stolen Bodies, Stolen Lands," last Tuesday in the Congress Lounge, featuring several poems from his books. He has written several books about oppression and marginalization.

What sets Clare apart from other political activists is his physical disability, and his status as a transgendered man.
He said, "I am a female to male transgendered person. I came out as a lesbian in my late teens. I lived happily in the gay community for about 15 years before I started to transition to living the way I am now as a white guy."

For those who can be open minded, I'm guessing Eli Clare is making a positive impact.
For the Glen Becks and Rush Limbaughs of the world it's probably something more like this, "From lesbian to white guy? Now that's a success story!"
