Title: Massachusetts state worker protection
Post by: Renate on February 17, 2011, 06:31:13 PM
Today, February 17th, 2011, Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts signed two executive orders:

Executive Order 526 (http://www.masstpc.org/publications/3party/Executive_Order_526.pdf)
Executive Order 527 (http://www.masstpc.org/publications/3party/Executive_Order_527.pdf)

These two documents extend protection against discrimination for gender identity or expression to all state workers.

Good to see some politicians have our back. Now If we could just get em' all to do stuff like this.

I read about it. Gov. Patrick seems to be a genuine ally of the LGBT community in Mass.  Congratulations.

Agreed.  That's what Government is *supposed* to do - give people rights, not take them away - to protect the people (*ALL* the people, not just the religious right-wingers).

That said, it needs to be more than executive order (they can be reversed through another executive order, as has happened in Virginia).  But it's definitely a good step in the right direction.
