So I'd had my cat for about 1 year and heard about toilet training for cats. While finding it hard to fathom, I did some research and gave it a go. My cat, Zhaan, is pretty flexible and learns fast so I started with a metal bowl that happened to fit right into the toilet seat firmly, then filled it with litter. She took to it pretty fast, only have one accident on a rug that we had left in the restroom.
It took awhile for me to get around to buying her one of those plastic training rings, (mine was Citi-Kitty) where you put it under the seat, cover it in litter and take out concentric pieces every couple weeks or so. And within another month she was completely toilet trained!
It was so easy I now cannot understand why so many cat owners stick with smelly, unsanitary litter boxes. So, if you have heard about it and weren't sure if you should try it, go for it! It was so worth it! :D
The only reason our cat goes to a real toilet is to drink from it! ;D

Cats are very independent as a species and will only work WITH humans if they trust them. Mine were given a litter box which I cleaned daily and I never had the smells. My cats never had any accidents unless they got upset for some reason-that is how they tell you there is a problem.
