Title: Finally Getting Started on Hrt The Right Way
Post by: erocse on February 25, 2011, 10:12:13 PM

I wanted to write this post last Friday night, but Patty suggested we not "count our chickens before they hatch".  I have been on hrt for over a year now. Unfortunately I have been self administering. It is now time for an orchiectomey and a gender and name change. So I thought I better get therapy started so I could get the referral letters. I was a bit apprehensive having been on hrt and self administering. I didn't know how a therapist or doctor might react . I thought they might be jugdmental.

Well last Friday I met with the most wonderful therapist, in Eugene, Oregon. . My appointment was for 11:00. Eugene is about a two and a half hour drive. Well we ran into snow on the way there. Needless to say, I was late. I got there at 11:30. Which made me even more nervous. We talked for along time, I think she worked through her lunch hour. She was very comforting to talk with and certainly not judgmental.

At the end of our session I had a GID diagnosis and a promise of the referral letter to get started on hrt and a gender change. I was amazingly happy. I just had to kick myself and say "Why didn't I do this years ago".

Today I received the letter in the mail !! I called my doctor and they said they received the letter from my therapist. I have an appointment next week to see the doctor. Yesterday I went to the county courthouse and got the paperwork for a legal name change.

I should have done this years ago. I feel so much better now that I will be under the supervision of a doctor from here on out. I don't fully understand why, but I feel very relieved to have gotten a formal diagnosis.

  Hugs, Roxy

Good for you! Roxy

For some odd reason I don't think you are the first person to start hrt this way! ;)

Feels good to do it the right way (legal!!) I'm sure.

Should experience a little more potency also.

Congrats Roxy. As for the feeling of relief, it is always great when someone besides ourselves or our close family validates what we know to be true inside. Almost as if we now are certain it isn't just a crazy thought in our head, but something apparent even to a medical professional. At least, that's what I think.

My Dearest Sister,

I am glad that you are now under a doctors care.  I shall not chastise you for DIY, because I think most began that way.  I am just glad you will be monitored now.

The name change is easy in our state, just the waiting can be the hardest.  And changing the gender on the ID is just as easy.

If you chose the same doctor I did for your orchidetomy,  Dr. Nguyen, up here.  Be advised he requires two letters, but one can be from you own GP.  The other of course should be from your therapist.

I am very happy for you, and I am sure Patty is also thrilled for you.

Hi Erocse,

That is good news. We cannot self administer in Australia because we cannot get the drugs without prescriptions from a medic, so we have to follow a legal medical path. It is annoying at times but they do then follow through on blood tests, liver tests and bone scans to make sure we are responding in a good way. And we are then able to get any paperwork needed for surgery.

Snow ::) An interesting concept. Not sure of the reality of it

Sorry being nasty

Good to hear it all went well.  Definitely better to be under Dr's prescription so they can monitor bloods, but I can understand why people in some countries feel they have to DIY.

Same for the name change, here I just have to go to the Register of Births,Deaths and Marriages, hand over $80 and enough ID, fill out the forms, and it's done.

Snow is nice in the mountains but I could do with a bit of ice, I miss the local skating rink.

My dear friend Roxy

I´m glad to hear that you´re now under supervision of a medical doctor.
It´s so much safer. coz hormones can do a lot of harm.
Congrat´s honey, now you have a diagnosis from someone who knows where he or she talkes about.
The next step is coming.
I´m following your steps in transition by my screen.

love and hugs

Hi Roxy

It's good to hear that you are finally sorting yourself out and as you have realised the relief and happiness that you have experienced from you seeing your therapist, changing your name to the upcoming visit to your doctor, will continue unabated when you do things that will make you happy and contented.

I know, I have been there and done that as they say and this has been the case recently with my hormones.  To this day I still do things that make me happy and I never question it.

Oh and congratulations and all the best for the future, but then I guess that is not needed because I know your future will be rosy.

Kindest regards
Sarah B

I understand the relief you feel, Roxy, but don't beat yourself up with the shoulda/coulda/woulda. You are truly on your way now and in a good state for transition.

As for the 'snow', I thought we weren't allowed to use four-letter words here.

Please, dear Lord, let our house in snowy Washington sell this year.

Robyn

Family!

Don't feel too bad about DIY. I did it myself in the begining of my transition.
I did not want to go to a doctor or therapist unless I was absolutly positve I could transition. For me at that time that meant I had to be positive I would have a good reaction to estrogene.

Now you can go see a proper doctor and get your hormone levels checked and be safer.

Congrats!

hugz,
c
