I'm not going to pretend I"m petite for this but I took pre-hrt measurements and bra size measurements tonight and am very confused.
I buy 38B bras. These fit very well. I am comfortable in them . 38A is a little too tight in the cup and B doesn't push up so I figured I was a small B. (obviously varies by brand but this is where I'm at)
When I measure my band it's a bit under 40" and my bust over nipples is 46", the overbust is 43".
Some site bra calculators have me at 44D and some at 44B. I bought a 40B and think it's too big. 44 seems insane? Is anyone else these measurements? Do you actually wear a 44? I plan on losing about 40 pounds and assume my breasts will get bigger or stay at B (hoping for C, my mother is a DD) ...44B sounds impossible to find.
I figure I'll keep wearing 38B because you can find them in stores...but do wonder if I'm being dumb about how a bra should fit.
46" 39" 43" pre HRT. Measurments started, HRT appointment set. Lost 30 lbs already and have started exercising.
I am also now confused about my men's pant size. I wear a 38" pant with a belt, relaxed fit because I have a big bubble butt..but when I actually measure where my jeans site it says 42". Now I'm wondering if my tape measure is crazy town.
The 38 thing sounds right, I have a 40"chest for the band but 38 is even a tad loose. Stick with what fits right which if it is like me, and your numbers seem to be very close, stayed at a 38c until I started on T. I always wore 38 waist on pants but the tape measure usually says between 38 and 40, my weight bounces like many.
I when to Victoria Secrets for a measurement. And I am also a 38B. They measure over the upper part of the breaths coming form under the arm, over the chest. And then under the breasts.
Ok... let me explain
You need to measure over nipples (take a deep breath) and under your bust (dont breathe :P). Then subtract underbust measurement from around nipples measurement.
The difference between your bust and under your bust is a CUP size.
12 cm - A cup
14cm - B cup
16cm - C cup
18cm - D cup
20cm - E cup
22cm - F cup
24cm - G cup
Ok I did something, I hope it will be helpful :)

Sounds like your on the right track with it... I wear a 38B most often also :)
So I'm still confused ! when I look at how to fit on web sites they say to add 4 inches to the band size so if your 38 would be 42 ? and add 5 inches if if your an odd size so 39 would be 44 ? ???
Dont add any xtra inches cause it will be to loose to fit well. It has to be tight to make breasts look perky, not saggy.

Just ignore that.
If you were a gg yes that may be useful but even then bras are not made to these sizing charts created in the 1950-60's.
The main difference between you and a gg is the band size, you will always be significantly bigger in this area of the chest so basically your already adding inches.
Also as muscle mass decreases your band size will. I was fairly comfortable in a 34-36 A. now I wear a 32-34 B. I usually buy my bras in the girls section, it also makes it easier as I appear to just be shopping for my daughter. ;D

Right! The +4 thing was confusing. It can't be true for all brands.
I was suprised and happy to confirm that I'm a B cup by measurement. I knew that they fit in that cup size but thought I might be wishful thinking a bit.
38b makes me feel good because I can actually get them..often on sale...anywhere. I feel like my skeleton is huge..and that makes me feel less so.
My wife is 5"11" and 155 lbs., and wears a 36b amd she looks great so a 38b is not bad AT ALL!

That's inspiring to hear. I am 5'11" and feel like a beast. I think I can get to about 170ish...maybe less if the HRT helps me drop muscle.
I have written about this on my blog. Everywhere online and even on TS forums you read: 'Measure below your breasts, and if the result is even add 4, and if it is odd add 5.' I am a 34/35 inch chest so my band size would have been 40. I have bras that are 34A and they fit me fine.
