Hello my little droogies,
A week ago, I received a yearly census form from the town. Usually, I just sign and return it. It's juat a confirmation that you haven't moved or got a dog or something. This time, after I signed it, I realised that I was not happy with being M (male). I know I can't choose the only other choice F (female), so I crossed out M and made a T with a note that T is for Transgendered.
I don't know if they will use it, but I figure It's time that there were alternatives to Male/Female. I identify as female, but I understand that the world sees me as male (I feel as though I landed on Jerk World). I don't necessarily want to mess with people, however, I would really appreciate being counted as T or even, Other.
It seems like there should be M/F/I/T choices to me.
I know that some people don't like the term 'trans', so maybe T can be a G for Gender issued people. M/F/I/G ????
M/F/I/O ???
See you around,
Rebecca
Been hanging out at the milk bar again, Becca? BTW...Love the boots!
Yes, it would be nice for some choice other than M or F...(Still pushing for this to be a yes or no question)...Maybe B for Both and N for Neither???
So that gives us M/F/I/O/B/N....there ought to be a great word one could make of those letters, but I'm not gonna try right now...changed my mind...the new Lie Detector Monitor---FIBMON...don't leave home without it!

Hi Laurie,
What boots?
Both or Neither are good choices too. I might be both right now.
How do you prove that you're neither?

What boots?
Ah come on...you started this with the term "droogies"...a term made famous in the movie "A Clockwork Orange" where the main character used to hang out at the milk bar and then go on rampages of "ultraviolence" which usually involved kicking the crap out of someone with their boots...until....

Beats me, but I have talked with several folks here at Susan's who state they are asexual and have no gender, so I know they exist.
Personally, I fit in the Both category. Somewhere around the 2/3 F, 1/3 M...but it is all subject to change without notice (even to me). At times, I am all Male...scratching in public and all...other times, I am Female and all that entails...and others, I'm just me with no gender-specific behavior easily identified.
I do get some interesting looks from the women when I go out in public with long, polished nails, feminine jewelry, eye makeup and my beard. Amazingly, most seem like they approve, but few ever say anything.

This is a really good question. I suppose for me even though I'm pre-op, I would choose female since that's how I am living my life and that's what's on my driver's license as well.

Hi Laurie,
I forgot about all the kicking of people in 'A Clockwork Orange'. My brain seems to erase violence. I mainly remember the language and the theme of the story.
I'm not doubting anyone who says they have no gender. I hadn't thought of that option. I thought I was good at imagining myself in other people's places, but I can't imagine having no gender.
I'm not always conscious of my gender, but if asked, I know how I identify. I'm not knocking anyone's beliefs here. Please don't be offended if I mis typed my meaning.
My thinking behind identifying as Trans is to put forth the idea that we should be counted as a group. If Intersexed, Transpeople, or Both were counted for real, it might encourage official organizations to recognize that our medical needs are a little different than the ordinary person.
Also, it might be made to feel more ordinary to Josephine & Joe Average. I'd like to think that it might encourage the normals to treat their children better when they are different.
And, to be honest, I haven't been hiding my nature since I came out to myself and I haven't received a negative reaction yet. I heard some friends discussing how things have progressed for Gay & Lesbian people. I think the effort they've made on their own behalf has been helping us and we can return the favor by now holding the door open for ourselves by standing and being counted for who we are. This will in turn be positive for everybody in terms of acceptance.
Why did I have to come out to myself? There was no mechanism available by which I could have come to understand my own nature. Being counted means maybe others will be aware of their own possibilities earlier in life.
Melissa,
I think that what I'm saying is if our condition were to be more universally accepted and understood, then maybe you wouldn't have had to struggle as much as you did in order to get to where you are now.
From my dream to yours,
Becca
(thanks, Laurie. I like Becca)

Oh trust me hon, I STILL struggle and you are right, it's pretty much all because we aren't universally accepted or understood.
Melissa
I know other people feel differently, but id be personally happy with M/F/other (where i get to tick F)
but its near impossible to get every category covered in a census...
