I think that's all you're going to get.  Especially when you hold yourself out as an MtF first and a female second.  Do the activites you like doing and meet people that way.  Disclose as you need to...

With respect Tracy, I don't think those adverts will get you what you need. I don't use them myself, but understand that those that do, terminologies are all code words.

I'm just guessing, of course, but saying Friends Only, might mean you aren't looking for payment.

I really understand about being shy. I have the same problem and is really hurts sometimes.

Ah I do remember in the gay scene, the more your ad says you're not looking for sex, the more you are looking for sex.  :)

Maybe it's also a cultural difference between men and women - I've been contacting people on a coed dating site lately (OKCupid) saying I'm moving to Devon soon, wanted to say hi to some people down there and start making friends before I arrived (this is to people whose profile said they're looking for friends too, note). All the women I've contacted (who wrote back!) seem totally fine with the idea of making friends first, and seeing if anything develops. All the men have been really weird, and it took me a while to realise they assume you're just looking for sex, whatever you say, so why would you contact them when you don't even live there yet?

At first it pissed me off, but then I started to find it funny. There's no way someone who's decided that's how things are can be persuaded that in your case, it's different :).
