Title: another alice in genderland
Post by: Alice in genderland on March 15, 2011, 06:41:59 AM
Hi everyone!

I've been reading for a while and I have found these forums to be a very friendly and supportive community full of nice people, so I've registered to these forums for the first time in years (omg, I don't even own a fb account!)

About me: I am two weeks into HRT, currently on Androcur and Estrogel. Only my wife, who is very supportive, and a couple of friends and relatives know, among them my cis-ter. In a matter of weeks, I'll be outing myself to my parents (this is gonna be veeery difficult!). Besides, I'm planning a transition on the job, which is a tricky thing in my case: although my employer (academic) has very well-defined anti-discrimination laws, I might not get my contract renewed at the end of the year; we'll see... On the other hand, and good so to avoid the "absorbing effect" of transition I am writing a phd that is taking its time to get finished (a bit like Penelope's shroud :)). I find this a good way to keep me busy enough to not think all the time about the Thing, with the big "T". That means, to not be worried and worrying all the time, not allowing dysphoria and fears get the best of it all. Privately, I've been going out as a woman for almost one year. I just feel like a spy when disguising myself to go to work. Genderly speaking (can u say that?), I do fully identify myself as female, but not as girly one. I find many of the stereotypes about feminity to be just a bunk, clearly incompatible with the vision of my true self after GRS. For example, I like some military style clothing or I picture myself doing some cosplay with a katana, learning some martial arts and such.. ;) But that, I might say, is a "working site". For now, I am concentrated in the first steps of transition. That means getting rid of the "male" stage persona I've been playing for years, as well as letting go when it comes to feel and act female, and trying to enjoy it all.

Well, a huge hug to everybody!
I'll see you all around!

*wave* Welcome! It's great here. What's your phd in?

Congratulations on starting HRT, and moving forwards.

=)

Hi SurlyCat!
Thanks for the welcome!
phd is in history/philosophy/politics btw
And yeah, HRT is great! I'm particularly in awe with the "zen" calming effects of E.
Hell, I'm even thinking of someday wearing a T-shirt that says "Estrogen is my nirvana!" :))

Ah cool. I'm studying psychology, in my 3rd year. I did a little bit of philosophy in my first year, and one of my modules is history and philosophy of psychology. It's interesting stuff!

That'd be a pretty cool tshirt :-p

Cool, mate! BTW, have you ever thought of becoming a therapist/coach? Of course, being trans doesn't mean, you must have something to do with it professionally, but it does not mean the opposite either: my own therapist is trans, and when you are at the very beginning of things or when you have to explain a professional for the first time who you really are, that helps a lot, believe me.

Quote from: SurlyCat on March 15, 2011, 08:09:52 AMHaha, I really hope that there comes a day I can have T.

That day comes! You just hold fast and go one day at a time. Then, someday, you just start to fly. HRT gives you wings! ;)
You'll make it.

If I let it print someday, I'll post a pic, promised!

Hi Alice! :icon_wave:

Welcome here! This is the best of the best as far as transgendered sites go. I know you are going to enjoy it here. All the girls and boys here are very friendly.
Where are you from Alice?

Isn't it amazing what E does for you? I experience the same effects. I am now just over 2 months HRT and counting.
Best wishes for the phd. You go with the t-shirt idea!! I love it!!

Hoping to read more of your posts soon.

Hi Maegan!

Thanks for the warm welcoming! Yep, I'm sure this is the place to be, online speaking.

My location: I am Trans... national. I was born in the wrong country ;)  -sorry, I couldn't help the bad joke  >:-)
But seriously, continental Europe is where I live, someplace near the Alps. I've changed countries many times already and I only feel loyal to people and principles, not to nations. I do not believe in state boundaries, but in culture and genuine people. Another way to see it, we are all alice in genderland.

Huggs!
