Bosses of Britain's Channel 4 this week signed on to an agreement committing the television channel to portraying accurately and sensitively the lives of transgender people.

The agreement, signed at an event in London on Monday, is the work of UK group Trans Media Watch which aims to improve fair and accurate representation of transgender people in the media.

In signing the document, Channel 4 has agreed to combat misinformation about transgender issues; to increase well-informed and positive representations of transgender people; and also ensure that transgender people working in or with the media are treated with the same respect as non-trans identifying people. All this is aimed at reducing anti-trans sentiment and a lack of understand of trans identity.

Thank you for your detailed news article I enjoyed reading it. It's good news that Channel Four are portraying transgendered people accurately. hopefully it will raise more awareness to people in the Uk about transgendered people, that way hopefully there will be less confusion about what a transgendered person is.
