Title: Voice good enough
Post by: Nick Z on March 22, 2011, 06:08:32 PM
Started a topic about developing a male phone voice a couple of weeks ago, called Need to Develop Male Telephone Voice--Fast!

Lot of you guys came through and gave me some great tips. I can't make excuses any longer...girl i talk to online wants me to call her...

I've followed all your suggestions... bottom line.... i need a very honest opinion..stressing very...

Do you think this will pass, or do I need more work. Again, be honest.

Thanks!!

I think it's passable and because (I'm assuming) she knows what you look like she won't have to second guess your voice since it is obviously not soft or high pitched.

I think it sounds good. The only thing that I thought was odd was that it was a bit too flat - it sounded like you were reading/reciting something (which it looked like you were doing, so it's no biggie xD). With that in mind, though, my only suggestion would be to try and practice adding a bit more enthusiasm to your voice. Reading a monologue from a play/film that interests you might help.

honestly? I don't think it passes, not trying to be a dick, just trying to give my honest opinion.  It doesn't pass to me because it sounds like a soft/ high pitch voice that has been made raspy

it doesnt sound deep, it just sounds raspy.  Have you tried the boom your voice? king kong, ding dong, ping pong thing?   I knwo you dont have much time, but I did those exercises daily and my voice went from super girly high pitched, to still high pitched but sounds more like a young male, in a few months time.

Thanks all for your critiques. It has helped. Guess I'm not as bad as I thought. I'll work on the "emotion" thing, and I probably sound too monotone.

Responding to Elijah, thanks for your honesty, and sadly I already did the "bing bong" thing.

Mark -- She think's I'm 30... so I'm probably in trouble.

It's easier to look male in a picture than through the phone, I've come to discover.

Thanks again...

sounds like you have an east coast accent, which have always seem more masculine to me, which is to your benefit. I say you sound a little younger then 30 but then again, we all know your changing your voice, so im sure it will pass with her. Good luck!

I think that voice passes. I have a really bad voice, but it passes sometimes remember it's a lot about confidence in it and how you speak too- more direct and short. I think you'll be fine, you do sound a bit young but remember phones distort voices a lot too so if she says anything put it down to the phone quality.

In all honesty, I think it's passable.  Obviously on the higher end as far as pitch, but if I met a guy that sounded like that, I really wouldn't think twice.
