Title: Finally telling family
Post by: Serra on March 24, 2011, 11:02:41 PM
So I finally told my cousin today; she was super supportive and basically said "we figured something was going on." I sent an email to my aunt and two uncles, and we'll see how that goes.  One uncle should be fine, he's a pretty open guy, but my aunt and other uncle will be more interesting.
I'm also meeting with my dad next week for dinner, and going to have the talk with him.  This is the one I'm dreading, it really could go either way.  I have to come out as both trans AND a lesbian.  Luckily I'll have my girlfriend with me for support.

I'm nervous for you.  but also excited.  It's so nice that your cousin supports you and that you have a nice girlfriend to be with you :)
I like hearing when things go well for people coming out.  It gives me a little more hope for when I will have to.

Will you let us know how it goes with your dad next week?

In my opinion people worries about things they shouldn't worry about.
When you come out of the closet, the reactions are unpredictable.
You can find support from people you never expected it.
But, one way or another it's not in your hands, you can only tell and wait what their reactions are.
Nevertheless, what the reactions are, it won't change anything.
You're a tg and that won't change, the only thing what can change is the support you can get.
But that wouldn't stop you from your journey to transition, right?

So, just be yourself, tell what your feelings are and hope for support.
There can't be a judgement coz it's your life and you have to make it a pleasant life, nobody else does.

Good luck and I hope the reactions will be positive

Yeah, I'm just paranoid and like to talk my thoughts out.  The only person I was really worried about confessing too was, ironically, the person I was most sure would accept me.  My mom's super nice and super accepting, but if she hadn't accepted me I don't know what I would have done.  I'm so close to her that without her in my life as a support I probably never would have made it this far.
I'm not NEARLY as close to my father or extended family. It'll suck if hey don't accept me, but I'll be fine.

Meeting with my dad went great!  He was totally fine and understanding.  Just have my two uncles left to talk to and everyone is done!  /happydance
