"What is this International Transgender Day of Visibility? And why do those transgender people need another day? We already had the Day of Remembrance shoved down our throats; why another one? I don't have anything against them: What they do in the bedroom is their business. And as long as they stay out of our public bathrooms, I am OK with them!"

I hear such statements often as I do my work across the country helping break down walls and build bridges. As an open and proud transfeminine person, I'm the director of a national nonprofit that helps educate mainstream, primary-care health providers on how to care for transgender clients. I also help the transgender community find educated, compassionate health-care providers.
