I get my nails done a couple times a year but I actually prefer the overall look of nice and clean natural nails. What does everyone else think?
This is pretty terrible, but when I first saw the title of your post, I thought, "Hammer them."
Then I saw what forum you were in. <sneaks out surreptitiously>
I do my own nails, including acrylics. Of course my girlfriend prefers them short. And if you don't understand why, think lesbian.
Hehe,
Reminds me of the joke where the guy walks into the hardware store and asks for some nails.
The clerks asks "How long do you need them?"
And the customer replies: "Well, I was hoping that I could keep them!"

Indeed!!!
The two significant reasons I can't keep my nails any longer than I do is because I wear contacts regularly and I ma----b--e regularly! But I need to keep them square and kinda long because my bf really gets off by being scratched all over :-)
I don't get any awards for nail care.
I let them grow long, give them a bit of care and a clear coat occasionally.
When I play guitar I'll grab the desk scissors and lop off the nails on my left hand.
You can actually still remove contacts with long fingernails.
You just have to use the side of your fingers.
I use my thumb and index finger on the left hand for both eyes.
The thumb usually has a long nail, but the index nail is short.
I find that if I don't let them grow a bit, I tend to pick them. Strange but true. ??? I have had a couple of professional manicures in the last couple of months and liked the result too. Unfortunately we can't wear nail polish at work, even if I was game, for hygeine reasons.

I've worn contacts since age 14 and the best way I've found to not poke my eyes is to use my left hand to take out my left contact and right hand to take out my right contact.
I let them grow and trim and file them when they start to flake or break. Never had anything professionally done with them.

The way I make mine squared off is by using straight toenail clippers. I don't even need to file afterwards as it makes such a clean cut. But the corners do tend to snap off a couple days later, tiny little pieces of the corner that're hardly noticable.
i get them done every 3 weeks. long, square, gel nails. no polish, just solid glitter sealed inside the gel and sometimes hearts or flames or something ontop of it with acrylic paint.
I love french tips but I can't always afford them. Right now I'm wearing "Cotton Candy" because I have a nail that got ripped off and it seems kind of silly to have tips on nine fingers.
I'm a terrible nail biter, always have been, I used to chew my toe nails too when I was a kid, now I try to resist but the temptation gets the best of me eventually, but I usually manage to slavage something with a nail file to get them looking ok...ish again afterwards.

Great! If you will, please enlighten me!
I've always wondered, how do you bite a nail for it to break. Do you spit out the chunks or are they bits small enough to not bother and just swallow them? How long does it take? Do you suck on them first?
I used to suck on my toes!
I just chew away, some times I don't realise I'm doing it at first, I tend to chew them up and swallow the pieces, well it recycles me in a way :)

Good way to get gallstones.
