Title: For My Name Change
Post by: PandaValentine on April 03, 2011, 10:07:03 PM
My mum thinks this will just be another name I can't live with, but everyone always found the name Parker to never fit. When I look in the mirror, I can see Jacob fitting but I don't know. People always gave me weird looks when I said my name was Parker (even though it was unisex). I really love the name Jacob. I want a name I can grow up with, and Jayden seems like such a kid name. Also T will eventually make it so I pass better, so I think Jacob will only work better than. Plus this name in no way can be a girls name from what I know. :)

Lol, still having trouble deciding on a name?   It's alright, man.  I understand.  I really like both Jacob and Jayden.   However, for some reason I do think Jacob fits you better.  Idk why.  But they both are good. :)

Ha-ha, well I thought I'd decided on Jacob but when I told my mum she just started saying it was another mistake and I want to make sure it isn't. I mean I said before I was going by Jay but I wanted Jay to be short for something.

Lol, oh I didn't even think of that comparison! :P
That sucks.  Unless you like twilight.  I do, so, I wouldn't mind if someone said that to me.  Oh well.

Actually its because of associations that I end up dropping names, like 'Riley' my sister kept saying Miley, like Miley Cryus and the next day I dumped it.

I don't mind twilight (first one), but I don't really like the character Jacob. I don't hate him enough to want to change it though.

Hmm, maybe you should do a google search for the "most uncommon male names".  then if you find one you really like, your family will have a hard time trying to associate them with things.

perhaps you should wear a name and use it for half a year before you change it this time around.. to make sure it fits right. Name change in canada aint cheap.

Well I've liked Jay for over a year, it's just the matter of what name it comes from I guess. I mean I don't know if it matters to me but more to everyone else. THey make me always rethink things and second guess myself and it's why I never go with what I really want in the first place. But then others opinions sadly do matter and can affect how you live your life, unfortunately. I would wear it for half a year but being incredibly impatient and also going for my drivers license and motorcycle license, I don't want to have to go and change all the names around, I'm also getting a passport so I don't want to have to get that done twice, and then all yet again after my surgery! It's easier when I have the least information to deal with and change over. It takes a while for me to get all the forms done and I'm trying to try it out for at least a month but it's hard.

If you're looking for more options on what Jay is short for, I really like the name Jayhawk.

But Jacob is a good name, and more unambiguous than Jayden - which if you say it quickly could be misheard as Jane.

You could change it to Jacob and then go by Jay as a nickname since Jay works really well as a nickname for Jacob.  You should just change it to what you want.  There's really no such thing as looking like a certain name.  Parents pick names for their babies long before they know what they're going to look like.  Go with the name you like.  And don't stress over whether or not it's absolutely perfect.  Very few people get to pick their names at all, so you're name will be a lot more meaningful to you than it is to most people even if it's not perfect.

I personally think that it suits you great.  Well,  you can always shorten it to jay if you end up thinking Jacob doesn't suit you. :)
