Title: Change of Gender in CA?
Post by: Heath on April 06, 2011, 06:11:02 PM
Hey guys. I'm only posting this question as a last resort....

So I want to get my name and gender changed at the same time. I live in CA. I have NOT had any kinds of surgeries, but am on testosterone. I could have sworn I saw somewhere on the transgender law center website that a gender change could be done in CA without surgeries (top or bottom) but now I can't find it anywhere. I thought the law had recently changed. Anyone know?

Yes, you can change your gender marker in CA without having any surgeries. You just need a letter from your doctor.

On the TLC website that Rob posted I can't without surgery. :( unless there's been a recent change in the law that I can hand over to my doctor to take a look at.

I'm pretty sure you can't get the court order without surgery unless you manage to get very lucky with both doctor and judge, and slip through the cracks. But you can drop an email to TLC and ask. They answer fast. You can even call them up on the phone, and you might get an answer on the spot.

You CAN get your gender marker changed on your drivers license without surgery (or even without T, for that matter).  All you need for that is to have your doctor fill out this form: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/dl/dl329.pdf (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/dl/dl329.pdf)

However, you can't change your birth certificate without surgery, unless, like Arch said, you happen to get really lucky with regards to the court order.  But I wouldn't count on that.
