Melody Maia is no longer a username I made up one day. She is now officially, legally ME! I can't believe it!

It still hasn't sunk in yet. I am sitting in my local Social Security Administration Office in a bit of a daze! It will finally be real when I get my new drivers license and I see it printed next to a photo of me.

Congratulations, darling lady.  Now there is no denying who you are, in any way, shape, or fashion.  When you say to someone "My name is Melody" that is EXACTLY what you mean.

Domingo: 2/10/71-4/7/11. You protected me and kept me safe. You gave me great friends, made me a part of a special family and a son. You faced the world when I could not. Yes, you were sometimes angry and stand-offish, but you were also funny and loyal. In the end, you sacrificed yourself so that I might live. Thank you and Godspeed.

Woohoo Melody. Congratulations. I mean this respectfully RIP Domingo and thank you for protecting her.

I did a similar thing when mine came through.  I posted an honest to gods obituary on my old MySpace Page.

RIP Domingo.  We will care for Melody now.  She is a guild-sister now.

Thanks ladies. Your words have really touched me. Sandy, you never cease to make me laugh and make me cry (in a good way).

I didn't get much sleep and was running on adrenaline. I am starting to crash and get emotional. I need the release as I didn't allow it earlier in order to get stuff done and not ruin my makeup! LOL. I haven't had a chance to be still and think about what I just did and how it will affect my life, but it is starting to sink in.

  It is uncertain if I will change my name to Joelene due to my age, I like the name though.  I am still presenting as male, but that may change as I get more satisfied with my changing appearance and there are some potential serious health issues I am facing now, just waiting for the latest blood draw results.  I will let you all know.

Jolene, good luck with the blood test results. I hope you do get to experience one day the affirmation of changing your name to your chosen one.

You don't know me, and I only just signed up here, but I still feel obliged to offer my congratulations. :D Changing your name and title here is as easy as drawing up and signing a very simple document and requesting reissues of personal documents with your new name, so my name has been changed from the moment I came to terms with being transgendered. I was already Elly before even my wardrobe changed, and I always feel terribly sorry hearing about people like you in other countries who are already girls both inside and out, but are still forced to be saddled with a name that has all sorts of painful memories. It was exciting enough for me changing my name, so I can't begin to imagine how wonderful it is for you now. Congratulations, Melody! ^^

Welcome Elly. I hope you find Susan's as supportive and essential as I have found it.

It can indeed be a struggle in certain states in the US, but not all of them. It is like a collection of small countries with their own laws and traditions that have been combined into one larger country.

Yes, I am female inside and out (with the exception of SRS), but don't feel bad about the hoops I had to jump through to change my name. The harder the struggle, the sweeter the victory!
