Their bill does not include a provision allowing civil unions, as did Senate bill 1000 in 2005. But the new Senate Bill 500 includes the exact anti-discrimination language that was included in Senate Bill 1000 and passed the Senate last session 19 to 10.

Good, I hope the people who got greedy and demanded that the civil union provision be included last time have learned from their mistakes.  One small bite at a time.

Well, I'm glad Oregon is getting something. It hasn't passed yet so I won't be holding my breath. This was brought on by the same people who pull my ordinance package in Eugene off the table. We had a lot better wording than this one. This one is very broad in its wording, but hey it is something. I haven't got to read it yet, but everyone who has, has said that it doesn't compare to what we had in Eugene and it would have passed too. Most all of our councilors were for it, including the Mayor. There was a small contigency of right wing religous christians who were against us. Oh well, the past is past.
