She's a hardcore liberal that scares me a little bit.
easy way out is to say that you want to get the advice of a mental health professional for "things", evading if she pushes for a reason why (none of her business until it's time for it to be her business).
Wouldn't the fact that she's liberal make it easier, not harder? Or are you confusing liberal and conservative?
If you can, do the research on potential therapists on your own. If you can find someone who has experience dealing with gender issues, but doesn't EXCLUSIVELY treat gender issues, then you can just say you're having trouble with anxiety or depression and that's why you want to see that person.

But she scares me!
Jade,
If you are under 18, you have no choice then to tell her while you are still living in her house. If you are over 18 or your country's legal age, you can delay until you see a therapist. Either way you will have to tell your "liberal" mom anyway. My mom was conservative, but not overly so. She had her problem with mine at first, but quickly accepted what I am. Hugs!

"Liberal" means very different things depending on which continent you're on :). Good luck, Jade...
