Title: Support Groups and Help Me With My Next Piercing?
Post by: aydan_boy on April 18, 2011, 05:27:25 PM
Hey Peoples  ;D

Two questions from this jolly non-passing transboy.

One: I've heard of support groups for transgender people (not necessarily youth) around Canada, but no matter how much I try, I can't seem to locate any in the Carling/Stittsville/Kanata areas or in Ottawa for that matter. Is it because there are none, or because my computer/me is an idiot?

Two: Totally shallow self-centred, non-trans question, but what the hell. Do you think I could pull off snake bites? Or a large gage? Do you think piercings are feminizing? I know I don't pass, just wondering. My profile pic is of me.

If there was an awkward facial expressions contest, I would surely win  ::)

1. I did a quick Google search and all I could find was http://www.oocities.org/ottawaftm/ (http://www.oocities.org/ottawaftm/) . I don't live in Ontario though, so I can't say that the group still meets or anything. You might also want to check out http://www.xtra.ca/public/Ottawa.aspx (http://www.xtra.ca/public/Ottawa.aspx) and see if they list any other trans meetings.

2. Snakebites, yeah, they'd definitely suit your face.
Stretched lobes look good on most people, so if you want to put the time into them go for it. I see more guys with large gages than just the initial smaller size anyways. Personally I stretched only one because I thought both made me look too feminine.

I just wanted to say that you pass just fine in your avatar picture.  I agree with 'Nobody' that you would totally rock snakebites if you were so inclined.  Gages are a bit more touchy but if you want to than go ahead.

I agree with Squirrel698.   Judging by your profile pic, you totally pass to me! :D
And I think you should totally do snake bites XD
I've actually seen them more often on guys than girls.

I wouldn't get snakebites. What do you plan on stretching to a  larger gauge? If you don't look old enough to have them, then yes it's feminizing.

Can't help you with the trans group thing, but hope you can get some info. I search Yahoo and here for groups that meet in my areas.

In your avatar, you look like a friend I had in high school. He has some extra ear piercings that work just fine on him. I'm on middle ground about snake bites. I think it falls into the hipster/Hot Topic era of things. From the time when Hot Topic took over everything. Not all of them, by any means, but that's my first image. I know people who have them and I love them. I like piercings, and think that if you want them, go for it.

I don't know the first thing about piercings - but as an Ottawa-dwellar, I do know that the the Pink Triangle Youth group runs every Wednesday. It's not trans-specific, but might be worth a shot?
(I'm still working up the courage to go myself x3)

Here's the site, if you don't already know about them -

I'm not a fan of piercings actually. I wouldn't think they're feminine though since a lot of bio-guys pierce their whole faces up. But for what it's worth, you look like a young man to me in your user pic.  :)

You could try checking http://www.youthline.ca/ (http://www.youthline.ca/) You can email or call in to ask for any trans specific support groups which you'd think Ottawa would have one of.

As for piercings, I got the idea to get snakebites when I was 15 because lots of male musicians had them. Had to lie to my mum and say lots of girls had them, even photoshopped some musicians pictures to give the girls piercings. But now that I think about it I probably more often see it on guys. Girls seem to usually just have one. As for stretching go for it. I don't see many girls with them but that may just be because of long hair because a guy I knew told me he's known a few, but I've really never seen one. Anyways I think you'd suit both. My personal favorite piercing is tongue.

I'm partial to septum piercings, double nostrils, vertical labrets, and large gauge ears.

Snake bites seem to appear more on younger males. They look good, but are really common and make you look younger imo.

If you plan on stretching your ears. Use PFTE/Plumbing tape to stretch; not tapers. Massage with jojoba oil.
