Title: Is this a scam? (Another post about height)
Post by: Cody Jensen on April 19, 2011, 01:01:28 AM
Hey all. So I'm very self concious about my height. This is probably a scam but I just wanted your guy's opinions on it. It claims it can increase your height by 2 inches, possibly even 4. Like I said it probably is a scam. Meh. What do you think? Link:

There's no secret exercise program that will make you taller. Don't waste your money. If your bones are done growing, the're done. The only way to get inches taller is leg lengthening surgery. Lifts can help.

Hi Josh

An absolute scam.  Once you have completed puberty nothing will make you grow taller.   The only exceptions to this are if you are laying down for a couple of hours you will appear slightly taller for a short period of time after getting up and losing weight which will counter act the compression on the spine that the extra weight puts on your spine.

Anything that says 'we can make you taller' is a scam period.

Kind regards

Agreeing with Sarah on this one. Like Sharky said, if your bones have fused those are the only options. Man there are plenty of famous and plenty of important males of shorter height, just don't stress about it. Really, look up famous people of shorter height or something similar in a search engine, you'll probably be surprised at some of the people you see and people don't look down on them for not being tall.

Actually there is another way and its called limb lengthening surgery.  Surgery to make you look taller is a cosmetic process where the bone is cut completely and a device to stabilize the limb is fixed internally and externally.  This device can be adjusted until the extra inches has been achieved.

Kind regards

Yeah, sorry I was going to add that but I saw that Sharky already had. Josh, just so you know that can take major time to recover from. Sarah do you know if they will do that surgery for anyone who is taller than "little people" height? I seem to recall hearing they don't. I'm so sorry to use that word but I can't think of the medical way to word it  :-\ If someone corrects me I'll edit it. No offense is meant when I say that word.

Edit for better wording

Hi Andrew

I did not know that Sharky had mentioned limb lengthening.  Shows how much I pay attention.  In answer to your question I know just about as much as you do on the surgery aspects and that is nothing much.  Is there a height restriction, probably.  The reasons for the restriction could  be many and varied.

Also the only regions that this surgery would be applied would be the lower legs, it is doubtful that the limbs would be done.  In addition the amount of height gained would be restricted and the taller you are the less you want to be taller per se.

Warm regards
Sarah B

Please don't send your bank details to Nigerian princes who are experiencing a spot of local bother either.  :)

Only way to get taller is by breaking your legs. Don't fret about it - Yuri Gagarin was 5'2"! Plenty of short guys around.

Probably comes with a thick instruction manual that says, "place this manual on the floor. Stand on it!"

@Andrew To answer your question...
It is estimated that between 5 and 10% of patients (usually men) have elective (cosmetic) leg lengthening. It is considered a reconstructive procedure for children with two legs of different lengths or people with dwarfism. The procedure is a brutal process and fairly expensive. I did some research on it a year ago but I will just deal with my 5ft status  :)

I think that the more polite terms are 'little people' or people with dwarfism. I think dwarfism is the medical condition, but I hear little people used more.

I shoulda known it was too good to be true :/ I guess that's how desperate I'm getting. Limb surgery sounds painful :/ I'd rather not seeing as I just had a scoliosis surgery a year ago. What about HGH?

Basically anyone who is thinking about the offer in the OP can perform a simple experiment to demonstrate what will happen.
Find the busiest part of your town. Take out your wallet or purse. Open it. Yell "please take all my money".  QED!

That sounds horrifying. Why are people nagging us about SRS when some people have entire bones removed? :S Not judging those who do it but doesn't that sound more extreme? I just keep picturing a long spaghetti man wobbling around...

Bones aren't removed. Your legs are broken and a device keeps streching the broken ends apart as new bone grows between the break.
