on some night in april of last year, i was called to the mic at café hoop's queer open mic night for prospective students. i paced through the packed aisle, my guitar slung over my shoulder and walked to the stage. as i turned around i caught a glimpse of wellesley's future, a whole room full of purple-lanyard-wearing teenagers each eagerly awaiting their chance to wave my class goodbye and make wellesley their new home. i won't pretend that i hadn't thought at all about what i wanted to say to them, but i will tell you i hesitated a moment as my lips lingered over the microphone.
'i know what you're thinking,' i said. a pause, a what's-he-going-to-say look washing over the faces in the crowd.
'why did they let a boy into wellesley?'
