DIVAfest got off the ground last year as a project to spotlight creative Indiana women in the theater, bringing about 700 patrons to the Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival headquarters on St. Clair Street for a weekend of short plays.

One of them, Mikki Randolph, has an unusual background to bring to the project. Now in her late 60s, she was first a small-town Indiana boy, then a man teaching elementary school, a freelance consultant in social services and a theater person. Most of her transsexual transition was made in the 1990s with the help of drugs and surgery.

Her one-woman show is "Seeing the Universe's Magic Through the Eyes of an In-Betweener," a 50-minute autobiographical piece.
