Anyone on here live in Connecticut? I just got my name change taken care of about 2 months ago. I finally remembered that I needed to get my new birth certificate but before I send in the stuff to get the name changed, I was wondering if anyone knew the laws and requirements for getting my sex marker changed.
I am pre-op, but I am hoping that there is a possibility of getting the sex marker changed to female. I don't know if Connecticut allows it, or if there is some type of loophole that I can use.
It's difficult finding information about it, and what I can find seems to be fairly out-dated.
Thanks guys for your help!
Getting the sex marker changed on other documents here is pretty easy, but they make the birth certificate difficult. Connecticut allows you to amend your birth certificate without extra notations of what has been amended, but only after you have had SRS. The below is copied from the CT TransAdvocacy Coalition legal resource link (http://conference.transadvocacy.org/documents/translegal.pdf (http://conference.transadvocacy.org/documents/translegal.pdf))
QuoteConnecticut law currently only allows those people who have undergone sex reassignment surgery to amend the sex designation on their birth certificate. It does, however, amend birth certificates without any extra notation. In order to amend your Connecticut birth certificate, you will need to mail the following documents to the Department of Public Health, Vital Records Section:
• An affidavit from the physician who performed the sex reassignment surgery;
• An affidavit from a licensed psychiatrist, psychologist, or social worker, verifying that the you have undergone an evaluation and is of the indicated sex;
• A certified copy of your legal name change if your legal name is different than the name on your birth certificate;
• A photocopy of your driver's license;
• A $15 fee to purchase the new birth certificate; you can also purchase the new birth certificate for $5 at the town hall in the town where you were born.
MGKelly, thank you so much. That website is fantastic, I'm going to bookmark it.
