I've been considering growing my hair out. :-\ I'm currently 29 and have a huge thin spot on the top of my head. (again, with feeling: :-\) I used to have long hair when i was a teenager and really miss messing with it sometimes.
That being so, I've grown an interest in the Manchu Queue hairstyle (worn beautifully by Chow Yun-Fat in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). But, as a plain ol' white guy, would that look silly? I found some pics that I think point quickly to the "Oh Hell No" side of things.
For example:

Not being content with just a ponytail, I'd go crazy and throw tubes and wires into it as well, making it look a bit like this:

So.... am I crazy? Should i just keep it shaved forever? I'm not very fond of wigs as well. Just seems too.... I dunno.
"Oh hell no" is right. The cross-culture hair style can work, but it's iffy. I used to have dreadlocks, and as pudgy white guy looking the way I did, it worked, but in a corporate environment, it'd look silly. So, consider context.
I actually like the way the second one looks. I guess that's what I would go for, but I'm weird.

The second is great, wish i could do something like that...

It isn't silly.....I shaved my hair into the mohawk style and wear my hair down to one side...so it looks like...I have half shaved hair and half long hair....I think having partly shaved and partly long hair is very good for displaying androgyny.
