After passing in the Nevada Assembly last month, a bill banning employment discrimination based on gender identity or expression was narrowly approved May 11 by the state's Senate with an 11-10 vote, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The mostly party-line vote saw one Democrat and one Republican voting with the other side of the aisle. Sen. John Lee (D-North Las Vegas) voted against AB 211, while Sen. Ben Kieckhefer (R-Reno) supported the legislation.

"This vote puts Nevada with a small but growing group of states that stand for equality for transgender people," said transgender veteran and Equality Nevada Director Lauren Scott.
