Speaking of driver's licenses....
This is something that I thought of this morning that is kind of amusing as well as unnerving. And that is, that I've been finding it harder and harder to pass as myself lately. Now, since I don't smoke or drink, I don't get asked to show ID all the time, but stores here do randomly ask to show ID when using credit cards now, and I had to show mine at some point within the last couple of months and I got a very confused look from the cashier even though it was accepted in the end.
So I put together a picture showing how I look in my driver's license pic and what I look like today. It's a huge difference because when the picture was taken for my license, it was just before my 30th birthday. And not wanting to get old, I "protested" by seeing if I could get away with a full-on gothed-out photo for my license. And I did. (Yes, I was a total goth as a teenager.) But about a year later, I started to regret that because I had stopped really identifying as a goth and I had given up on any and every little attempt to appear feminine and female-identifying.
So here's the funny thing. If you had to ask me for ID, would you accept this?

woah! you look completely different! The only way I think people could tell it was you is your nose, other than that it's like another person haha

same but for me it was chin and ears
You're looking good man.
I'd accept it no problem. Even if I were more strict about IDs than I really was when I had to take them I'd take it no problem. I've seen people who looked considerably more different in their IDs than they did at the time of carding them; really, when you have to card people for purchases, you have to realize that people change one way or another, and some people never change the photo on their IDs.
No offense meant, because I do see quite a few changes and you do look quite different, but I don't see what the big deal was unless it had more to do with the F than the picture.
Thanks!
And no offense taken. I figured the confusion does come from the F. I've also lost a little weight in the face and I like seeing the changes. I hope to really drop some weight by the end of the year.
Haha, I had a goth piece of id myself. It was right before I cut my hair and started looking more androgynous, I had this long black hair with a black hoodie and make up like a raccoon.
I'd accept the ID but I probably would have thought in my head that you were on the run and had stolen your older sisters ID. Not to mention it looks like you've aged backwards so it'd make me more suspicious. But I'm one of those hyper paranoid types who things everyones some sort of criminal or under cover agent.
To me, it looks like you stole your sister's ID card :P
There are similarities in the face, but you just look so male, and the photo is of a girl, plus the "F". It's probably also a reasonable conclusion for someone carding you to think you're probably trans, depending on how much they know about trans.
It will probably get harder, with any luck on the weight loss, to pass with that ID by the end of the year. ;D
Heh awesome dude
I often wonder how on Earth I get in to nightclubs etc with my driving licence. It really boggles my mind. My DL picture was taken when I was 16 and had long hair half way down my back, in a centre parting (it's now short and spiky at the front) and my whole face looks oddly different, yet most bouncers don't even take a second look at me. ???
I wouldn't take it. Not close enough and if there is any question our liquor licence is far more important than your feelings. We don't let most of the ICP fans drink because you can't tell who they are under the makeup.
I can see the resemblance in your facial structure, but at first glance it definitely doesn't look like you. It looks like you stole your sister's ID, as everyone else pointed out. My first ID at 16 years old pre-trans identity had really long hair (no make up though, never used the stuff) and I was pretty chubby myself. My new ID isn't much different, just shorter hair and I've lost some weight.
I have the same problem with my id.. every time I buy cigarettes the gas station person either 1. makes a serious comment about me stealing my older sisters id 2. makes a joking comment about me stealing my older sisters id 3. makes a creepy and somehow sexual comment about how i used to look hotter 4. all of the above usually accompanied by an awkward chuckle and a muttered comment on how i really DO look like a boy
little do they know, getting our "female" ids questioned and rejected is the best compliment EVER!
Wow o.o I have this personal joke that FTMs during transition look like their old self's brother XD thus is true here. You look very masculine in your new pic, I wouldn't be able to tell otherwise if I passed you on the street. That's a huge, positive difference!!
