Yet they still fail. If you really treasure "freedom and choice in place of limitation" and want children to make their own decisions, you must go further. For example, why is this couple placing their children in a species straitjacket when, like the Texas wolf girl, they may later conclude that they're really an animal in a human body? Why are the boys having man's norms foisted upon them? Why put clothing on them? (This could, after all, send the message that the body is something of which to be ashamed.) Why teach the boys language? And, more specifically, why should we place them in a cultural straitjacket and chose that tongue for them? I mean, Jazz and Kio may be Tagalog or Urdu speakers at heart.

For the benefit of the unschooled, I'll state my point bluntly: You are placing limitations on your child whether you like it or not. You do this when you teach or model language, manners and customs — and a thousand other things. Enculturation happens.

I got about 1/3 ofd the way through.

This guy's an idiot who can't form an argument.

I'm pretty sure there is red in the US flag, which many in the US seem to hold as an almost holy icon. But let's not go there.

Storm is not being deprived of anything -- rather it is the rest of the world that is being kept from a secret.
People like the author of this article are freaking out because they don't know how to deal with it.

The authoritarian ideal is to keep other people in check, have them conform to society.  When they can't keep this child in check, they feel left in the dark.
They're scared -- not necessarily because they think something bad will happen to the child, but because they're denied the ability to keep this child in check.

The author alludes to "human sacrifice, cannibalism, and slavery" throughout history in his article, in attempt to prove that humans are inherently evil unless kept in check by society.
I can't fully agree with that kind of philosophy... I feel the inverse is also true; it is just as easy for people to be inherently good, however still suspect to being corrupted by society.
"Human sacrifice, cannibalism, and slavery" do not speak for all people of past civilizations; they're only examples that evil people can claim power and establish their own warped views on how to keep others in check.
