Title: What to do with a long face?
Post by: JadeS on June 02, 2011, 08:16:25 AM
Hi, any idea what to do about a super long face? I don't think I've ever seen any girl with a face as long as mine, I'm not sure what to do about it, it seems like a dead giveaway that i'm trans or used to be a guy physically .. thanks.

I've seen girls with long faces and chins. They generally deal with things by experimentation and self confidence, then a load more experimentation.

Generally, girls seem to have most success with anything that is bothering them, by taking notice away from that area, generally using makup.

What sort of things are you thinking about?

Maybe a hair cut like Emma's wig.  Comes forward to cover the chin.

I don't think your face is long at all... and long faces are attractive and model like on women.  I actually had my face elongated when I got my chin implant, and in my opinion is was an improvement.
Also, as you gain weight and get more fat on your face, your face will take on a rounder appearance, which will diminish an elongated look.  Trust me, you have a good facial structure.

my face is noticeably longer in the latter picture, but it doesn't look less feminine...

Jade, I saw your pictures in that other thread and I can assure you that I've seen girls with faces like yours before!  In fact, you look remarkably similar to a girl I knew in school.  Try highlighting your eyes and, once you're on hormones, your cheeks will hopefully fill out.

If you don't like the length of your face, do things to center people's gaze on what you see as your strongest features. :)  Makeup is good for such trickery.

my cheeks used to be fuller, but I lost a bit too much weight recently.. I ended up at 108lbs (5'6 tall), so I think I should also try to gain a good 10lbs+, and thanks for all the replies, I know I really need more confidence

Vanna I didn't know you were on Susan's, and we can't argue with your face  ;)

I think surgery should be withheld for abnormalities in facial structure, and not just for its shape unless it's very extreme. I agree that hair can do wonders to compliment your face, I've seen many attractive ciswomen who owed their image to a good choice in hairstyle.

Well, my nose was broken when I was a little girl... and it healed up with an incredibly large bridge, especially in the profile.  Would this be classified as abnormal in your book? =P
Hehe I'm teasing, getting my nose job was the greatest use of my money I've ever spent.  My nose bothered me my whole life, as both genders, and having it fixed was a huge relief for me =)  The chin implant was just to balance the nose job out... it's very common for anyone to get a chin implant or chin reduction when getting a nose job

I agree completely about money well spent, I have a similar issue, deviated septum, that has bothered me for as long as I can remember, it's all about the money and priorities. Especially for those early in their transition, money might be better spent on maintaining HRT, and unless you're non-op, saving for the big one. Some things, like a crooked nose, that would effect you whether you were male or female, will not be significantly affected by hormones, and certainly would warrant surgery.

Jade, I don't see any features that mark your face as strictly male, but I do think make-up could help tremendously to improve your image. From looking at your image, your hair doesn't strike me as particularly feminine, and I am just as guilty of taking poor care of mine. I've had long hair most of my life and how well I took care of it definitely affected how often people mistook me for a girl (far before I considered my gender). As was said already, smiling can also have a huge effect. I don't think many would disagree, working on your smile is going to help you in more ways than one.

I completely agree... Jade, at worst your features are androgynous... there is nothing strictly male about them.  I think they favor the feminine side... especially when I imagine you gaining a little weight in your face.  I don't think you have much to worry about.  Morrigan is totally right about smiling... smiling is such a powerful tool.  I notice that when I'm talking to people and I begin to smile, they also begin to smile.  I generally smile the whole time I talk though, which can lead to the appearance of some very happy conversations =P
When smiling, try showing mainly your top teeth, and smile from the cheeks... not the lips, if that makes any sense.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess I need to stop worrying for nothing
