Title: No Butt? No Hips? =)
Post by: VannaSiamese on June 02, 2011, 03:10:27 PM
Both of these are pretty common concerns for girls of all sizes and ages, trans or not.  However, it seems to be sorta hard to find a solution, or answer, aside from having surgery =(
I am definitely one that suffers from having no butt... not only is it not in my genetics to have a big butt, but my genetics also don't allow me to store much fat on my body (which can be key for growing a butt).

Anyway, there is a solution to these problems =)  It seems that lots of people grossly underestimate the power of exercising.  It is very possible to build up a decent butt and to grow some hip size with just working out your lower body.  Since your butt is made up of fat and muscle, it makes sense that building up the muscle in your butt will give you a bigger, rounder, more shapely butt.  Just imagine a ballerina, a martial artist, a yoga instructor... all these people have nice butts and hips because of the muscle they've built up in them.

Also, building up the muscles in your thighs, around your butt and in your quads will also help with hip size and curves.  Not to mention, the easiest solution to getting the appearance of bigger hips is just to get a smaller waist (cardio and ab exercises)... and a way to diminish broad shoulders for your frame is getting bigger hips and a butt.
Not only will working out your leg, butt and ab muscles give you a more curvy figure, but it will also give you more control over your hips... since moving your hips requires the use and control of your ab muscles.

The ideal solution to the biggest butt possible is to use heavy weights (going to the gym, leg presses, squats, lunges, dead lifts, etc...), but you can also get pretty dramatic results from home too with ankle weights.  I bought one of those programs that comes on infomercials at like 2 am (Brazil Butt Lift) to test it out and see if it worked for me.  The program is difficult at first, but it totally works.  I'm about to finish week 8, and the difference I've noticed is pretty dramatic.  There are several different programs like this that are dedicated to building your butt, or you can just look up exercises on YouTube.  However, I just liked the idea of a program so I'd get into a routine... and the program I bought focuses on abs and legs too.    I'm sorta at a point where I need to buy a gym membership to get more butt growth, but i'm terrified of my parts coming out of my shorts =).... so I will just try to maintain what I have at my house, or either buy some baggy sweat pants for the gym =P

Anyway, here is what I have achieved from sticking by this program.  I mean, I'm definitely no 7 of 9 (my friend recently turned me onto Star Trek: Voyager), but I am happy with what I am achieving, and I feel a lot better about myself and my figure.

That's looking pretty good! ;D  Might have to give that technique a try; gods know I need to start getting some exercise.

I was 25 pounds underweight when i started HRT 5 months ago, so I worked hard to gain the weight by eating about 5,000 calories a day for two months.  Like you, I have difficulty gaining and keeping weight.  I actually hit my target weight, but lost 5 pounds when I went back down to about 2,500 calories.  I was hoping that the weight would go to my breasts (er... what breasts?) but instead it all went to belly and butt.  Now I have cute little hips, but I'm still too light on top.

Ugh I have that same problem =(  I was 5'8 115 lbs for the last year, and I'm finally up to 120... but according to my doctor I need to be about 135.  I think if I could gain the weight then it would go to my butt and boobs.  I've been doing 3000 calories a day for a month and a half now and I'm up to 120... but I will lose the weight like you as soon as I stop drinking my shakes =(  I remember many many years ago (before transitioning) I was put on anti-depressents, and I actually gained almost up to 140 lbs and my butt got so much bigger.  I forced myself off of them though, and have been declining in weight ever since =(
You can combine exercise with your diet to avoid getting weight on your belly =)

What kind of exercise would you recommend for the belly?  I'm an exercise idiot, except for walking.  And I'm also a drummer.  My body is pretty much in constant motion because of RLS. :)

Just any cardio to lose fat, and then ab exercises to build muscle in your stomach.  Just make sure you are taking in a lot of calories, exercising burns a ton =)
YouTube some ab exercises, or just go running

Have any suggestions for good exercises for the whole area? :)  I was doing light leg and hip exercises for several months but lost the inspiration to do it because I wasn't seeing any results.  Perhaps I will start again, this thread has inspired me.

I probably don't need any more cardio... lol  Just put on some weight after years of anorexia and I'm not wanting to slip back into that pattern.

Ab exercises sound good if I can find something that doesn't involve lifting weight with my abs.  Earlier this year I got a hiatal hernia as a complication of the stomach surgery I had four years ago. :(  And I can't get it fixed because I have no health insurance.

My weight is a struggle too and I've only been gaining weight cause of my shakes like you lol and I'll lose it if I stop also. I'm 5'7 and 112lbs right now, it makes me look boney :(

Most of the weight I've been gaining seems to go straight to my butt though...it's bigger like every week

Get ankle weights and get on all fours.  Kick one leg up in the air (push with your heal).  Then do the same exercise except cross your leg over your other leg on the way down.  Then extend one leg completely straight, flex your foot and lift the whole leg up... then do the same exercise except cross over your other leg on the way down.  They are simple and effective, I'll probably have to find you a YouTube video though because I doubt my explanation makes much sense =)

I find it hard to believe exercise will increase size laterally, hence balancing out broad shoulders. Ive been cycling a lot and despite it making my butt more rounder in terms of z-axis (a good deal of fat as well as strong underlying muscle) it still remains to only extend as far as my hips + 1cm of fat along the x-axis.

Sorry I lack vocabulary to describe it any better.

Well of course exercise will increase size laterally... it just may not be as profound in the hip area, but is certainly possible... and very possible in your legs.  Ever see somebody who joins the swim team?.. how broad their shoulders get from swimming.  That growth is just muscle gross... their actual skeleton didn't change.   Look at women who workout and bodybuild, they often have very broad, defined shoulders... much more so than the average man

Try this
77 glute kickback (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pThLIgDpwWA#ws)
Then, try the same exercise except cross your knee over the back of your leg on the way down.  Then, do the same exercise except keep your leg completely straight, so you are lifting more with your butt muscle).  Then do that exercise and cross your leg over your other leg on the way down.  Once you get comfortable with the motion after a week or two, add ankle weights... then it really starts to build up your muscles =)

Either way its worth an attempt. Just deciding whether to do side-lunges or stuff yourself with pizza, whatevers easier.

Hahaha =)  Well, I don't really think that's much of a decision... because basically you are saying "Should I increase my health, or decrease my health?"  They way to gain fat is by eating good fats, like avocados, fats that actually help your cholesterol, not destroy it =)  So, the simple answer is... do both.  I am eating a 3000+ daily calorie diet with all the essential fats, fruits, veges, proteins and so on, and maintaining a muscle building exercise... that's the best way to get fast and healthy results.

The exercises I do that really effect my butt are squats and lunges, although these also have devastating effects on the quadriceps. I have some unnecessarily well defined legs to go a long with my not so tiny butt. I tried that exercise but I admit I'm still confused about the whole leg-crossover thing.

I have sort of a similar problem.  I can't gain fat on my legs and butt, it all still goes to my waist.  I'm really hating the fact that if I want hips compared to my waist I have to be cut and defined all over.

You could try doing cardio, ab workouts and leg workouts.... the ab workouts will tone your waist line up, the leg workouts will give you bigger muscles.  There is an herb called MACA root which is suppose to have really good effects on women in regulating their hormones and weight distribution.  A large majority of women report gaining weight in their butt and thighs because of this herb, which also causes a lot of women to avoid taking it.  I've never tried it, but it's very inexpensive (like $10 a bottle)... I just don't know about the effects of it with an artificial hormone source... as opposed to actually having ovaries.  You should do some reading up on it =)

I have a similar problem and HRT doesn't work very well on me either. I have no hips or breasts even after over 12 years on HRT. All the fat goes on my belly but my butt, hips and boobs stay thin. Very much like male type fat distribution.

I'm not in hrt and I've noticed some good results with this even without weights although it may take longer. I do glute bridges x 50, hold one second each, but hold 30 seconds on the last one, 2 reps of 20 leg lifts each leg, 2 reps 20 kickbacks, the exercises with a broom handle on https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a_BOlHEbHZc this video, although I have a heavier metal pole... Also "The waist stretch" from that same video. If you're not dead yet you can get on an exercise bike for 30 minutes.
I used to do that three times a week, been doing daily lately though, occasionally switching it up with various other things that work the same muscle groups, and basically avoiding upper body stuff because I'm not on hrt and don't want to bulk that up. Slowly increasing reps on some stuff as I get more stamina too.

If you're also quite overweight like I am, you could do this with intermittent fasting, I do a daily 12-16 hour fast, exercise during the fast to basically burn pure fat, losing about 2lbs a week this way, but keep it under 1% of your body weight per week, if it exceeds that you need to consume more calories when not fasting to stay healthy... Of course you don't want to be losing weight if you're not overweight...

Figured I'd include one of the videos I switch it up with occasionally... She makes it look easy though...

One thing that's fun about this forum is how a seven year old thread can come back to life and people don't notice the original poster hasn't posted several years. Vanna's last post in '15 was about becoming a parent and I can see how that can redirect one's priorities from hips and butts. I used to enjoy running across her modeling photos back when she predated Andreja Pejic as well known TG model. I hope things are going well for Vanna these days.
