It seems to me that people are having their empathy and 'common' decency ground out of them by society.  Sure, these salespeople would sell anything to you.  A commission is a commission, after all.  
Ask them show you at least a modicum of respect or politeness outside of a sales environment?  Sorry, you're not a potential client.  We don't care.  You're a non-person.  Lowered inhibitions from alcohol certainly don't help the matter, either.
Sorry, I'm a bit frustrated with humanity and using far too many generalities, I'm sure.
