Headed to The State Capitol
April 11, 2014, 02:03:05 PM
I will be attending Equality and Justice Day on April 29th in Albany, New York. Empire State Pride Agenda will be sponsoring the event. There will be workshops, meeting legislators and sharing my story (possibly), and meeting other advocates and activists. This signals the beginning of my being an activist. I never saw myself in this role but events have nudged me forward in this direction.

That sounds awesome Gennee! You have always come off to me as very well-spoken and like you have a good head on your shoulders, so I think you are an excellent person to go and do this. I hope you have a great time.

The day in Albany was a success. I was impressed by the number of young people in attendance. A group of us met with an assemblywoman who supports us. After a rally one the capitol steps, I attended a workshop on getting current issues moving and networking with other advocates. One need stressed was to present the issues transgender women of color face.
You could say that my journey as an activist has begun. I also met Emelye who recognized me from these forums. I was impressed by the number of young people in attendance. I met some wonderful people and really look forward to being more involved with activism. I look forward to attending next year.
