"An Ohio clinic recently made history when it began screening women for a groundbreaking medical procedure: transplanting a uterus into a woman who doesn't have one. Uterus transplants have been successfully carried out in Sweden, but the Cleveland Clinic's trials will mark the first time they've been carried out in the U.S.

The recipients of the transplants will be women "born without a uterus, had it removed or have uterine damage," according to a New York Times report. Once the women have one or two babies with their transplanted wombs, the plan is reportedly to remove the uteri so they don't have to keep taking anti-rejection medication."

Like the lab grown vagina transplant I can't see many if any trans women being the recipient of this.

I think somewhere in the future, it might be the far away future it could happen.

I really hope this does end up happening. I think I've wanted to go through pregnancy since even before I realized I was transgender, as strange as that may sound.

I read about this recently while I was looking into methods of conception for trans people. A donor is one possibility but I also read that having one's own uterus grown from their cells in a lab is also going to be possible somewhere down the road. I'm assuming that in those cases the uterus would not have to be removed since it would be created using the patient's own cells.

Because they're also looking into ways of allowing two people of the same birth assignment conceive a child together, including a method of creating egg cells from AMAB bone marrow, it'll probably be possible before long for trans women to carry their own biological children formed from their own eggs.

I have heard from a few trans women who were dysphoric about creating children with their sperm. Not everyone is like this but I think for the people who do feel this way technology is definitely heading in the right direction and before long trans women will be able to reap all the benefits of motherhood.

I also heard somewhere that the trans uterine transplant is predicted to happen sometime before 2020.

Doesn't sound strange at all, I'm the same way. I always had strong maternal instincts, because my parents always took care of foster babies when I was growing up. Now with the hormonal influence I'm very baby-crazy and would love to get pregnant and give birth. But I think I'd wait a while for the shiny stem-cell gear instead of getting a transplant. 🙂 I'm sure it'll happen eventually.
