Hello "Hope to be Helpful" People.

Hi,
My name is Kevin (Australia) and I am hopefully here to find help and support.
I am 42 years old, broken relationship with one child (5yr old boy).
From the age of 16 I always thought I was Gay or Bi but over the past 10 years I knew I was not.
Looking back on my life I always liked to cross dress and wear woman's clothes in secret, NOT because it was a turn on for me but because I felt more comfortable in them.
I shave my legs and hate hair on my body.
I want to be female but I don't know where to start.......HELP.
I have spoken to my Psyc about this and she keeps telling me that "I am who I am"...traditional older lady who doesn't understand.

Hi Kev,

I'm Cindy and I'm in Adelaide. We have a large contingent of Aussies here and you are most welcome.

The obvious stuff is to see a good therapist to sort out your feelings and needs. The process in Aus is pretty straight forward nowadays even if some waiting list are long. If you let us know which city or state you are in we may be able to guide you to a service that is a bit more helpful than the woman you have been speaking to, who sounds as if she is clueless.

Hi Kev, welcome .

I'm 40 and only started on my own journey at 37, I have two young children (6 and 3).
It took me the better part of 2 years to really figure who/what I am,  and that was with the help of a great therapist and all the wonderful people here.
There is no rushing this, do things when you want or feel the need to, and your destination will be your own and right for you.
There are many great people here,  you're among friends.

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to Susan's.

I'm in Sydney, and I've only recently started seeing a psychologist about my own issues in this area. Would be happy to pass on their info if the location suits - they specialise in Gender Identity and the guy I'm seeing is very accepting and nonjudgmental. He has also said, from time to time, that I am who I am. I don't think that it's a poor characterisation. On the contrary, it's suggestive of a person-directed view that does not try to put you in a box or define you in a manner that doesn't fit who you are. You might ask your current psych to help you explore this part of yourself. If they are not willing, or if they then try to 'box you up', then you'll know it's time to move on. But if they are willing, and approach the issue with care and consideration, it may be more worthwhile sticking with them - in my experience changing therapists can be an expensive and time consuming exercise, as you have to re-establish a new relationship for each new person.

Welcome to Susan's.... you sound very much like you have come here because,... like most all of us, you have come to a point in life when the truth of who you are, at the very core of your being... needs to be expressed and see the light of day... we have all spent a lifetime hiding and hoping the truth would go away but... you know what?

I think you are going to find that your real life is just getting started... the days of hiding are at an end... and many amazing things lay ahead... the doors of possibility are swinging wide!

It can feel overwhelming... especially at the start... so much to learn and do...making changes that touch every aspect of your life... relationships to those closest to you now and how you relate to the world around you ... but, the journey of 1000 steps is taken one step at a time... get a therapist you can work with and know that here, you have a wealth of experience and friends ready to help you with your struggles and celebrate the many victories in your life to come

Move along at the pace that suits you... be the tortoise or be the rabbit but move ever forward towards your own truth in life and embrace it
