Yesterday was Johns funeral, a founder member of our hot rod club. I came down with a stinker of a cold so stayed home. It has been suggested that we all get together and have a meal in Johns memory. Lets hope it happens, Nick bought Johns T roadster he started to build in the 70s. First time I went to his house the chassis was stood against the fridge in his kitchen, now I am giving Nick a hand to build Johns T and it will have a memorial plaque on the dash for John.

Well I have been welding and fabricating, so much welding still to do. Soon we will be working on the T pickup again and hopefully I will be collecting another engine I have been given. Its flood "damaged", well it was fully under water so not sure what its like but I hope it has some parts I need.

Of to pick up that engine this afternoon, need to strip it down as much as I can to get it in my car!! Still welding and grinding but getting somewhere, TBH the only original bit of body shell left if the outer skin due to rust. I need another sheet of steel as running out, that will be the 4th one!!!

Still cracking on, 5 hours about each day is enough for me at the moment. Boot (trunk) all made up and welded in with just a few bits to tidy. Having to stoop over to work in the back has put my back out again so I moved onto making the tube frame for the flip front. Packed the inch tube with sand and heated it with a blow torch holding it in a vice and got it into the curved shape of the front clip.

5 hours is a decent chunk of time each day considering the work is I imagine pretty physical. How long so far have you committed to this restoration? Is it your first?

Not my first rodeo! Latest in a long list of projects, when I ran my garage we restored many air cooled VWs as well as a few hot rods. I built my Austin drag car, a front engine dragster with a friend, my daughters drag beetle, my VW panel van and my 51 Austin Countryman street rod (3rd rebuild!). Austin Hereford ,the Herferod is my latest and most likely my last but I am helping one of the folks build a T Roadster as well.

Wow that's quite the portfolio of restorations right there. So really car restoration is pretty much your main hobby for a long time. Great work for sure.

Well I am a trained mechanic since I started aged 15 in a country garage working for/with old style folks. I have been in the same hot rod club since 79 and we still meet up.

As a youth i had a 1956 chevy Bel Air. In the time I had it i pit in a small block 327 and and a turbo 350 transmission.  It  wasn't great off the line but I could brake traction just cruising down the road.

Have you ever worked on BMWs or Ferraris?

Mustangs or Camaros or Corvettes?

Plenty of BMWs, a few Ferrari. Some Corvettes, I dont like them to drive and a few odd American cars, Dodge van, F150 Ford pickup with a flat head V8, baby Cadillac. How about a 1930s Buick I used to MOT (yearly roadworthy inspection) that had a straight 8.

Do you prefer the naturally aspirated V8 engines or V6s that may be supercharged or turbocharged for a power car?
