Despite Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's bragging about getting Scouting America to end its "woke" ideology, the scouting organization formerly known as Boy Scouts of America clarified that transgender kids are still welcome to participate in their programs.
"We have transgender people in our program, and we'll have transgender people in our program going forward," President and CEO Roger Krone told the AP.
At issue is a deal Hegseth reportedly struck last week with Scouting America after he ranted about the group changing its name, welcoming trans kids and girls, and letting "DEI" (diversity, equity, and inclusion) become a concern for the organization.
Scouting America and Hegseth reportedly came to a deal last week, with Scouting America agreeing to end its commitment to diversity and requiring all kids to register for a scouting program as the sex listed on their birth certificate. Moreover, Scouting America agreed to keep restrooms, tents, and other spaces separated based on sex assigned at birth.
"We do not put boys and girls together in intimate spaces, and in order to do that, we need to have some knowledge of who they are," Krone said.
"That means that the application, any application, will have only two sex designations, male and female," Hegseth said, "and the application must match the applicant's birth certificate."
The organization did not agree to ban any person based on their sex or gender, and now they're saying that trans kids are still welcome.
